We all have units with Eternal Warrior, be it Daemon characters, Lysander, Avatar, whatever. I had a friend try to argue that Force Weapons drain all of the wounds, therefore making Eternal Warrior irrelevant. I said that Eternal Warrior protects against that. From there we dice rolled the result, but what is the actual policy on this?

What does the rule for Force Weapons say? Instant Death.

Eternal Warrior prevents Instant Death.

Now, there are ways around this, such as effects that "remove from play" - Daemonbane, Hex Rifles, old Force Weapons from DH and I think WH books...

The rules for force weapons are that they can inflict instant death if the target takes an unsaved wound. Eternal warrior means instant death doesn't work.

you can find your answer on P.50, under Force Weapons it explicitly answers this question.

first read the force weapon entry on pg 50 then hit up pg 74 for eternal warrior.

a force weapon inflicts instant death...straight from pg 50. there is nothing saying anything about draining wounds that is not fluff. eternal warrior grants immunity to effects of the instant death rule

so all in all no you cant die from instant death of a force weapon if you have eternal warrior

ah ninja'd big time

Last sentence on p50 of the rulebook, in the box labeled "Force Weapons".

"This power has no effect against vehicles, models that are immune to instant death, and any other model that does not have a Wounds value."

Also, the eldar diresword still removes models from play.

In the old GK codex they had force weapons that would do that, just cause as many wounds as the model had because there was no instant death rule.

now anything that says force weapon does not bypass eternal warrior, there are some things that dont really cause "instant death" so they will still kill the model regardless though.

What they all said and to clarify the Avatar does not have Eternal Warrior either.

Also, your friend may have been referring to how Force Weapons were used in 4th edition as Grundz stated the old GK and WH books used to have Force Weapons that would do that, not anymore.

+1 on the whole force weapon issue...

But if you are referring to the Daemon Bane rule for nemesis force weapons, then this is another thing entirely. It does not cause ID, it merely "removes the model" from play... EW does not protect from this ability.
