Hello, I have always had an interest in the ultramarines. I like their fluff, their characters, and I like painting blue, so I figured why not start a small side project of everyone's favorite chapter...oh and I want to have somewhat of a roman esque type theme and wanted to get some helmets with crests for my veterans and sergeants, does anyone have any links? thanks

Your shading and highlighting are excellent. A little dark for an Ultramarine (at least in my taste) but it's a very nice deep blue.

It is a touch dark, but I don't care I actually like the aesthetic better than the normal look. Great job! To really bring it home though, UM are one of those chapters that need their symbol on to really judge the model, the contrast and iconic nature of it really can't be left off!

Chapterhouse studios has some awesome roman heads i plan to buy to use for some of my ultramarine seargents. VERY roman feel, there are located here...

You can also try sciborminiatures.com they have some good roman and spartan heads. I think a bit on the pricer side thought. I love the models i am a black templar player so i like the darker shades keep it up.

Edit: As for the shade of blue, it meets my personal preference... and I think what people individually like is the only thing that will really determine whether it was a good choice or not

I agree with everyone....the blue is just a tad darker than usual but it still looks really good with the highlights and shading!

I'm a sucker for the classic red bolters, specially on Ultras, as it contrast the blue really nice.

But the black works too, other than that it looks ace! Really nice highlighting and shading on the blue.

It does however need the Ultramarines shoulderpad to bring it home.

Thanks for the comments and the helmet suggestions everyone! As for the shade of blue, yes, I intentionally chose a darker shade because it's easier to paint, but most importantly, I think it looks cooler. Almost every chapter I've painted has been darker than the norm. And as far as the symbol goes, I am planning on giving a transfer another try (I've tried to apply transfers to at least four different models throughout the years and failed miserably), I just haven't gotten around to it. Thanks again for the suggestions and comments.

I bought a bunch of the Spartan heads from Chapterhouse and they are amazing. I'm starting up a pre-heresy ultramarines force myself and am slowly gathering up the forgeworld Mk II and Mk III armor sets. Your painting is great, personally I like the darker blue.

I like it. Your use of shading and highlighting is very skilled. You should see a lot of wins in the painting competitions.

I like the fact that its not light blue its more of a darker look better than those smurfs that call themselfs Ultra Marines nice work
