Having spent some money in my local GW today (shocking but true), I found myself with one of these. I know that it's been mentioned a couple of times in other threads, but I thought it might be useful to consolidate what various stores are doing, as it seems pretty ad hoc. 1 stamp per £25 spent, 6 stamps to fill the card. Card can be exchanged for 1 hour of staff member as paint or modelling slave, posters or other"cool stuff"; in addition, completed cards going in a bimonthly prize draw for "something huge". Anyone have any other specifics or variations thereof?

The problem with big end promotions that promise something huge is that they ultimately fail. People want to know what big special prize they can win for dumping all of their loads of cash for. GW or their stores do not seem to understand this.

Anyways, the staff support benefit is pretty nifty.

From what I recall back when I still attended it, the Amsterdam store only had raffles around the time there was a big release or the store turned X years old. Mostly you could win a battle force sized boxed set and the big end of the day raffle you could win an army of your choice or something.

I wonder if its just that specific store doing that in an attempt to raise sales or if its a regional effort like the old skullz program... Is your store part of their one-man store initiative? I don't see how you could get your hour's worth of staff modelling slavery if it is as sales always come first.

One could argue that good customer service and hobby support should be being provided anyway, regardless of that day's purchase. The cost of the items should have the staff working with the customer anyway.

Otherwise, the raffle is good I suppose.

Although £150 for a raffle ticket is pretty gakky imo.

Frankly, the whole thing is pretty tepid.

I've seen people charge that much in USD locally for charity raffles... of course the prize is usually a brand new car!

Yeah. It would be better if one were to recieve a free boxed set, IMO.
Isn't that how loyalty cards with stamps usually work?

Is a step in the right dirction but sounds like a local initiative rather than a corporate effort which is really needed.

Well done to the store for trying at least.

The way it was explained to me was that they were just "trying it out". The staff at our local GW are very supportive generally, and actually get that engaging your customer, rather than pressuring, gets you better sales. The "paint slave" was a prize from the last auction they did, and went down a storm. Personally, I'd like a dive in their sprue bin in exchange for the full ticket, but that's just me I suspect. I agree that vague "cool" prizes are too nebulous for most folk over the age of 10; likewise, I'm not sure that "exclusive poster" is really going to cut it.
Ultimately, it didn't affect how much I spent in-store, nor would it. I shop both there and my FLGS, and indeed t'internet, depending what I'm after. Will I fill my card? Probably, though not on purpose. I'd love to see some free product as a reward from GW but on that day the devil will be driving a snowplough to work.

Out of curiosity, if it's one stamp per 25$, does that mean you get 2 stamps for 50$?

Yup. I got 4 stamps today having spent £90-odd. Although I believe it's supposed to be every full £25 (again - nice lads at our GW).

This seems like a generally good idea with a rather poor reward. For $250 USD, having some dude assist with his dubious painting or modelling skills for an hour seems poor. A $25 box of troops seems more useful, more likely to be appreciated, and atop that, balancing minimum wage & overhead vs the enormous markup on kits, likely cheaper to boot.

I would be shocked if this was something at the corporate level. GW seems disinclined to implement reward or loyalty programs in any form. Still, a good idea in general, though this particular reward program sounds unimpressive.

I've never heard of this, is this in the states? I see US posters so I assume it's a per-store policy

The OP appears to be from the UK. I seriously doubt this exists in the States, most official GW stores here are one-man holes in the wall. I'm now assuming that the OP just has a GW store that attempts to go above and beyond the norm.

This would require you to go into and spend time in a GW store correct?

Not to mention... Like Stompa said, GW should be doing half of that stuff in the first place, anyway!

I actually had my hopes up when I read this thread. - I had previously heard a rumour or two that some senior (egwell known) staff had gone to Wells/Kirby, with suggestions including Loyalty Cards and other more typical promotions that you'd see in a store, only to come back frustrated and saying "he only knows how to do one thing and one thing only in running a business, raise prices."

Guess that's still true then....

The GW stores i have been too have never been small. I have only been to the Ventura Ca. Store, (it was the smallest), the BattleBunker in Baltimore and one of the Seattle stores which was HUGE. Your stores are all small. Que Store Envy.

If the card was something along the lines of coffee promotions (6 cups of coffee for one free cup), I'd think the whole experience would be better.

Imagine- spending $40 or more 5 times for a stamp on a card entitles you to a free blister of under $20. Sure that's not alot, but think of the incentive that is real and apparent. It's not a deep discount for GW (10 percent at best), but it promotes an atmosphere that GW wants people to come back and wants them to feel like their hard earned bucks are not going to waste for higher prices in the future.

I hear you on this. My local GW has a fething massive sprue bin. They pull it out every now and again when its time to create something extravagant or if they are doing a workshop day OR when a staff member starts an Ork army.

Loyalty Card isn't such a bad idea imo. If you're going to spend your money at a GW store anyway, might as well get something back.
