Hello, it's the Doctor here.
So this year at Anime LA, I was able to debut with my Imperial Guard Commissar outfit. I liked how it came out so much, that I decided to try my hand at other stuff as well!
My next project has two deadlines. I say two so that in case I don't finish it by the first deadline (ALA '12) I have time to finish it by the next one (Comic-Con) [Or, at least I hope I can get tickets to Comic-Con]. It's going to be a Grenadier from the Death Korps of Krieg. I figure I have enough of the materials to make the uniform and that I don't need to purchase much else to complete it. My problem is this: I know next-to-nothing about making weapons.
Canonically, the traditional weapon of a grenadier is a hellgun, the more powerful version of a lasgun that requires a backpack. However, I'm not sure if I trust my skills in trying to make one that would fit within my standards. Neither do I have enough dough on me to find someone to buy from (being the poor college student I am).
My question to you guys/girls is this: would it be perfectly acceptable from a fluff-y standpoint if I were to go to either convention with either a shotgun or a flamer?

But yeah, so reason why you couldn't have a Shotgun. Flamer, not so much.

Hey, that actually looks like it could be a laspistol! Thanks, Chowderhead.
I did look at the Forgeworld models. It looks like one of them does have a flamer, however, So potentially I could make one (with a back-pack design). I should have plenty of time to figure it out, I suppose.
Again, thanks for the nifty idea, can use this in exchange for nerf bolt pistol if I wanted.

Nerf Longshot. Take the Bipod, cut it down, stick some card over it. I've often thought of doing this, but I use my Longshot quite a bit and it wouldn't be very durable, IMO.

I think you could make a pretty nice conversion based on the Buzz Bee Rapid Fire Tek.

Sad thing is...I still play with it, even without bullets.

Nerf guns with very little modifications work wonders.

That can be my bolt pistol or infernus without the clip. I'm working on an assault marine costume for next year's A-kon, I have a foam/latex, plastic core chainsword, it'll be my first masculine costume.

If you have any wood cutting tools, you could you those to make a wooden gun and paint it to look like metal.

Check out this thread for armor, laspistol, bolt pistol, bolt gun, flamer, power sword, etc builds.

Might be useful, anyway.
