Don't know if anyone has tried this, but...
Necromancer, forbidden rod, 4+ ward against 1st wound. 105 points.
I basically wait for a very low winds of magic, and then pop the rod. +D6 power dice, 50/50 chance the necro dies.
Tried it last night, got 1 power die and killed the necro.
Still think it might be very viable. Might skip the ward save to save 15 points.

I like forbidden rod on cheapo slann, or double slann lists. Can really make a mess of things that round you -really- need magic.

Thought about taking it on a Grey Seer. He usually gets Skalm anyway, so assuming he survives the Rod (which he should with a 4+ ward save) he can heal himself up.

How much is the forbidden rod points wise?
Just thinking if it's 50pts or less, rather than chucking it on an expensive grey seer chuck it on a 15pt naked warlock engineer that can be sacrificed without anyone caring and not have to worry about protecting the rod-bearer...

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

Problem solved, with WE you have a 50pt sacrificial power dice generator that you don't care if it dies, sounds like a good idea to me (and gives me an idea for a conversion...

Small correction: As the Forbidden Rod is an arcane item, you have to pay to make the Warlock Engineer a level 1 wizard first. Granted, that's still only a 65 point caster while most others pay 100+ for a level 1...
