Yep. These are the best of the expanded universe books. I think we all would have been better served if these would have been made into movies instead of Episodes 1-3.

I have read exactly one Star Wars book, and that was well over 25 years ago.
It was called " Splinter of the Minds Eye" and as I recall it wasn't half bad.

Definitely the original Thrawn trilogy. There's a 20th anniversary edition of Heir to the Empire coming out this month.

 I feel old.

The X-Wing series was also very good as far as Star Wars books go.

My favorite three books though have to be the follow-ups to those two series. Specter of the Past/Vision of the Future follow up the Thrawn trilogy years later, and really expand on the whole Luke/Mara bit. I, Jedi is, so far as I know, the only first-person Star Wars book out there and follows the story of Corran Horn from the X-Wing books a few years after the bulk of the series. Another very solid entry starring one of my favorite characters.

I read way too many of these books growing up. Skipped out on pretty much all the prequel ones and stopped reading the Del Rey novels after Legacy of the Force. Read nearly all the Bantam books though and everything through NJO/LotF through sheer force of habit.

The original Thrawn trilogy is top notch. The second duology... not so much.

I'm a big fan of Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, which is a collection of short stories.

The X-wing books are military sci-fi in the Star Wars universe, and doesn't feature any "main cast." The first few were by Michael Stackpole, who can really tell a yarn (and is a really nice guy at cons).

Anything by Kevin J. Anderson is just like anything else by him: overblown, ridiculous, but surprisingly entertaining.

Some stuff is just laughably bad: the Black Fleet Crisis, and Courtship of Princess Leia come to mind, but YMMV.

The "Republic Commando" series by Karen Traviss are okay, if a bit Mandalorian fanboyish.

The two Old Republic novels to tie in with the MMO are surprisingly good. "Fatal Alliance" by Sean Williams is the first, "Deceived" by Paul S. Kemp is the second.

I'll add another recommendation for Michael A. Stackpole's X-Wing books. They were definitely some of my favorites growing up. The later ones focusing on Wraith Squadron by Aaron Allston were also reasonably interesting. If you like Stackpole's stuff, I, Jedi is also good.

And of course, as others have said, the Thrawn trilogy is excellent.

									Me too.

I think I read about 20 odd SW books about 10-15 years ago. I remembering devouring then as soon as I could get my hands on them, obviously really enjoying them.

The funny thing is I have no recollection of what they are about?

Was the Thrawn trilogy the one about finding the lost Dreadnought Fleet?

I'll definitely second that. I think it's part of why I hate the movie so much. The book came out about a week before the movie did and I made the mistake of reading it first.

Survivor's Quest was definitely fun too. Outbound Flight was decent but I don't remember liking it quite as much. Less involvement with my favorite characters, probably. It ties in with Survivor's Quest nicely though.

I was kind of pissed when I picked up Survivor's Quest (I think it was that one). Found a bunch of signed copies at my local Barnes & Noble, which was in itself pretty awesome. Then I checked the date, saw some signs, and found out Zahn had been in the store earlier that day and I'd missed him.

  Then I found $5.

									Thrawn Trilogy
  Thrawn Duology
Some of the stories in the compilation books are good. If you're a Boba Fett fanboy you'll enjoy the one where he takes on an entire Imperial garrison.

I would recommend avoiding Darksaber, and the Jedi Academy trilogy by Kevin J. Anderson. I, Jedi is a much better story that also touches on some of the events in the Jedi Academy trilogy. It's really sad that those books were so poorly written since Exar Kun is one of the better villains in the EU. Automatically Appended Next Post: Monster Rain wrote:I really liked Revenge of the Sith. I actually liked it considerably more than the movie. Shatterpoint wasn't bad either.

If you guys like the Tales books, Tales of the Bounty Hunters is probably one of the best of those. The Tale of IG-88's and the Tale of Zuckuss and 4-LOM are particularly good. Boba Fett's tale in that book is straight up awesome.

I agree that the ending got a little bit crazy, but the brutality of the opening scene really grabbed me, and I thought it was interesting how IG-88 ends up having a hand in a lot of different things up until the events of Return of the Jedi.

I still really liked the way they developed Boba Fett in his story from Tales of the Bounty Hunters, especially the scenes with the Butcher, and the scenes with Solo.

Another decent one was Shadows of the Empire, set between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Shadows of the Empire was quite good. I read the Glove of Darth Vader when I was a kid too, but I wouldn't recommend it for an adult. It's more of a kid's/young adult novel.

Huh. There appears to be a new book coming out in a couple months starring Dash Rendar. Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time.

Did you read the series before the Fate of the Jedi series? It was called the Legacy of the Force series. One of the best.
