I'm new to playing GK, and had a ton of questions reading through the codex. Luckily, the FAQ is out now and answered many of the questions I had. One question I came up with that wasn't covered was whether or not a DK could ride on a Stormraven Gunship, as a Dreadnought can be carried by the SR. I looked through the Dakka forums, and many others, and no one seemed to have a definitive answer to this question.

I fired off an e-mail to GW US and they got back surprisingly quick. Since the rules for the forum say e-mails aren't necessarily believable, I wanted to post the response I got and let y'all debate it. I promise I'm not spoofing the e-mail, but it's the interweb and people aren't trustworthy, so believe my post or don't. Hopefully this will help avoid some arguments in game shops around the globe.

Here's the response I got from GW:

"Thanks for writing in to us, although I don’t have great news for you. A Stormraven can’t carry a Dreadknight (it’s just too big for it). It is limited to carrying infantry and Dreadnoughts.
Sorry we couldn’t be any more help than this."

I was surprised in many ways by this response. First, it was fast (I mailed it on September 4th and they replied on September 7th, and it was a holiday weekend). Second, I was taken aback by the apology for not being more helpful, since they concisely answered the question I asked. With some of the shenanigans I've heard of GK pulling, I was shocked I even got a response.

Those are my thoughts and my story. Debate away

Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

Welcome to Dakka first.

Secondly, no a DK can not ride in a stormraven, there are simply no rules to support it. A stormraven can carry infantry, jump infantry and dreadnoughts, that is all.

Read the FAQ, which states DK + Teleporter are not JI, they move as JI

Correct in both of the above. The email (if it is valid) makes sense as well. DK's are massive and are a piece that would make it difficult if neigh impossiable to fly not to mention im not sure how the suit itself would hold up in said transit.

n0t_u: No, but six can shoot out of it. Other than that it's a Rhino with a Heavy Flamer thrown on if I remember correctly.
Pretre: Thanks! I guess my pants are safe and clean after all.

Agreed with all said above.

However, it is up to you if you want to model a DK straddling a SR, riding it like an over sized jet bike . You still wont be able to count it as carrying a DK, but you'll probably get some laughs at your flgs.

With Chaos, Tzeench would probably turn your hands, feet and face into
scrotums, complete with appropriate nerve endings. Then Khorne would
force you and all your friends to fight to the death using your new
scrotal appendages. Once they get tired of that, you get tossed to

end up in Nurgle's clutches and he uses you as a loofah.

Sorry, the dreadknight can't ride the stormraven, but at least the dreadknight can move 30' once per game!

WOW that is quite the move, even in apoc you will usually not see those distances!, 30 Feet is a heck of a move!

Or did you mean 30"?

OP yea the dreadknight can not ride a stormraven, though, by the fluff, you should be able to fit it where the dreadnought usually is grappled.

But alas you can not.

I would kind of like to see that... Your enemies would be in awe of the stormraven heading towards them over the horizon with legs a'danglin' underneath.

Yeah, Dreaknights 100% can't ride in Stormravens. Chances are that if it doesn't say that Dreaknights can ride in a Stormraven, Rhino, etc, then they cannot.

I do want to point out the stormraven is the exception to this.

I have no idea why anyone thinks it might be possible, especially now that the "counts as JI" vagueness is done.

Not to mention the fact that the DK is a monstrous creature, and they can't use transports unless the transport has a special rule to allow it. Dreadnoughts are not MC they are walkers. And the SR has a rule to allow dreadnoughts. Not MC. the fact the DK can have a teleporter making it move like jump infantry has no effect, because it's still a MC.

I agree, but it had the semblance of a loophole. There was at least something worth discussing. That's put to bed now but some people are still talking about DKs in SRs.
