Basically what it says in ther title.
My opponent is a good friend, and he is no doubt going to try to run his new ven dread, with assault cannon and HF.

I am taking the Carnifex to pound his dread, as I have nothing else to hurt his Dreadnought, save the stealers, which are there to outflank onto an objective and take out a combat squad camping.
Ther gants and Prime are pretty basic, as I didn't have points or Hormagaunts for anything else.
I really need tatics and advice. Never played him with my nids before.

This, not a lot of variation in 500 points, but any intel would help.
Nids are having a rare down swing recently. I would recommend dropping unnecessary upgrades such as toxic sacs from the Termis. I don't play nids, but I was always under the impression you want to keep horde units (Like gaunts) cheap and expendable. Maybe add a bit more synapse?
At low points like this, I wouldn't see much reason not to take a stealer swarm, but we also need to know what you have to work with.

I asked him today at school for a few seconds.
This is the list he gave.
Catain
LC, Storm bolter-118
Tac squad with flamer and HB-170
Tac squad with Melta gun and Lascannon-185
Dreadnought(vanilla)-105
Ven dread with Assault cannon and HF-185
This list comes to about 763pts. He will be taking the Vendread if he can help it, because it is brand new.
Sorry, but not much else that I know.

Drop Pod for a spod

Carnifex with Heavy Venom Cannon and ST. See above.
Trygon( normally prime).
The reason I don't take stealer spam is that I need a few squads of gants to hold objectives. I can't afford to have camping stealers. And the fex is my only real solution to a dread, other than stealer spam.

Is he bringing a 760ish point list? If so take a zoanthrope, more synapse and ability to hurt vehicles.
As a space marine player, I can't help much with your list building but I can help you to combat his list a bit. He's gonna be footslogging his men across the board, use this to your advantage, boltguns can't fire more than 12" if the squad moves, so unless he plans on standing and shooting you, you have a few turns grace to do your thing.
If you can't hurt his dreads with your troops or shooting, imo just stay more than 13" away from it, to prevent it from trapping your squads.
Your carnifex will tear the tactical squads apart, they have no armour save vs monstrous creatures and according to the list you gave no power weapons or fists, so consider charging him into a tac squad and laugh in their face as they get massacred!

Correct me if I'm wrong but adrenal glands give your Carni +1 Initiative. Thats a pointless upgrade because Carnifex have I1 base, so initiative 2 isn't going to help them at all. The only time that would help is against terminators, and there aren't any here. If at all possible you might think about getting crushing claws on your carnifex. You are hitting on 4+, so rerolling all of those isn't that big a deal. I would rather have the bonus attacks. Plus with those you will still be rerolling 1's which are a third of your misses anyway. EDIT: double post

EDIT: double post Carnifexes have Living Battering Ram, which gives them +2 Int on the charge, so my carni will be Int 4, str 10 on the charge. As to crushing claws, I hate proxying, and I only got away with it by not paying for the HVC on the carni. Anyway, we played a 560pts, and rolled pitched battle Capture and control. Carni ran ahead, followed by a Zoanthrope. The first termgant sqad with my Prime camped on an objective. The other were in a forest, and moved, but stayed 60% inside. My zoanthrope managed to warp blast a Tac maine to death. Shooting saw my carni take 3 wounds. Thrope died to both comabt squads boltering him to death. My turn saw the carni recover a wound. he hid behind a building, but the window meant he could still be shot at by a HB, but I saved them. The Prime-less Termagants failed IB, but only moved an inch. My genestealers acme on on the correct flank, and charged his marines, but only rended once, and won by 1. the HB shot my carni, but I saved them all. Then his combat squad fired on him, scoring an unsaved wound. Genestealers score an amazing 7 wounds on the 4 marines, but he saves them all. Strikes back and kills 2. Carni fails recovery, and IB and jumps the building( or goes through it), 6", before charging the 5 man squad. My adrenal gland came in useful, allowign me to kill a guy. Poor rolls, only 3 hits and 1 wound. Genestealers msassecre his 4 remaining guys, but can't consolidate far enough to escape the dread. His dread moves to flame the genestealers, and incinerates 2, before assault cannoning the last guy to death.His Heavy bolter fires but misses. Captain charges in and scores 2 hits and no wounds, rerolling to get a 6, and killing the fex. My Termagants pass IB and move and run 12" to synapse range, moving behind a tree for 4+ covers. Serves them well as a HB kills no one. The dread moves forward and shoots but does nothing. My squad runs behind the same building the fex had been behind, but the vendread can still kill 4 before flaming 2. roll for game to end. 1. My other gants held my hom,e objective, while his HB combat squad held the other. Draw.

Was trying to. The objective was uop on a 2 stroey building, so I decided to get the comabt squad dead first, andf secure a turn of invulnerability from the dread that was 6 inches away.
The warp blast was barely in range of the marines, and ther dread was further back than they were.

Sounds to me like you had tough luck on the dice. Otherwise not an awful draw. I will say one thing though about your tactics. Leaving everyone behind, and charging in your two big targets probably wasn't the best idea. Thats how they were able to bolter your carni and zoanthrope to death. If you had brought up one unit of gants and the prime, he wouldn't have been able to kill them all, and you probably would have been able to get into CC with the dread or the combat squad. Termagants can IB all they want, so long as your objective is in cover, and they are there.
Remember about capture and control. Its not about killing his whole army, its just about contesting his objective and holding yours.

I tried to move my stealers onto the building's 1st level9 inside, so he can't hurt me, but I rolled a 2.
Here is the lists that we had.
Me
Tyranid Prime. He was with them to soak up wounds and to keep them on objective. He was also a counter attacking unit.
Adrenals
Regeneration
Deathspitter
ST
10 Termagants( the ones on the objective with Prime)
10 Termagants with Toxin scas. I had planned to run these up to shoot, but the loss of my Zoanthrope saw them fail IB.
Zoanthrope. He was in charge of the Toxin Scas gants, but his poor first turn of failing Psychic tests, not that he would be in range, and 2nd of killing 1 guy out of 3 is aweful hatred from the dice gods. Maybe I pissed them off?
Carnifex. He was the heavy hitter, and the man to tackle that damn Vendread. Loss of my thrope saw him break down a wall and charge a combat squad, and in his rage failed to kill anyone, bar 1 guy. His captain just got a lucky roll.
Him
Captain didn't do much, other than lucky shot my fex.
LC and bolter
Tac squad with HB and Flamer. This is the HB combat squad that claimed the objective.
Tac squad.
Thuis is the squad that was shot by my Zoany, later killed by stealers.
Vendread
    !
So, this game was the opening game to a new after schools club at our GW. We will be attending every wednesday and some saturdays. It works on a points system and covers all gaming systems, WHFB, LOTR, WOTR, 40k.
You get 1 point for playing a game on Wed or Sat. Win, lose or draw.
You get an additional point for winning a game on Thursday or Saturday, draw is +1 for each player.
You get +3points for building and fully painting and basing a unit bought in the store starting today.
+X points for in store compititions.
+3 for entering a one-off event.
Everyone starts at opts scouts.
0pts= Scout
20= Battle Brother
40=Marine Sergeant
60= Veteran
80=Veteran Sergeant
100= 1st Company Veteran. Earning this allows you 1 reroll per game, any game, any roll.
120=Pick a model on display in the cabinat, and play with it. Or possibly keep it, but I doubt you will. In addition to the reroll.
Captain with most points at the end of August 2012=Chapter Master. You get an honour scroll on the wall, and get an Orbital Bombardment per game, whether it is a GK Lance strike, or a celestuial bombardment in Fantasy. This will not change for a year, though you may still earn points.
Basically, me and my friend have worksed a system of play a kill-team game every week to maximise points.
So, that brings me to my next request. I need help building a Kill team army. For those who don't know kill team is a game where
Points=200
FOC
0-1 FA
0-1 Elites
0-2 Troops.
The board will be dense with terrain. The board will be 2ft by 2ft. No reserves.
Up to 3 modals in the army may take up to one USR each, and you may not have multiple of the same USR, so you can't have 3X FNP.
Here is the models I can work with.
Vanilla Marines
2 Tactical squads with a flamer and any heavy weapon.-170 each
5 man scout squad with 2 shotguns, heavy bolter, Sgt with Chainsword/bolt pistol, and 1 bolter, and camo cloaks( stealth)-100
Ironclad Dreadnought with any of: 2 Hunter Killers, Ironclad launchers, Seismic Hammer with Meltagun, Chauinfist with HF, DCCW with stormbolter, Hurricaine bolters-about 175/ 175 with all of these, the extra 5 coming from the Chainfist/ HF.
Vanilla Sternguard-125
5 Tactical Terminators-200
Land Speeder storm-50
Assault Squad with Sgt with PW, PP, and combat shield, a mini SS, that gives a 6++ but allows +1 attack-135
Tyranids
Zoanthrope-60
Venomthrope-55
Scratch built Lictor, that could be Deathleaper-65 or 140
2 Hive Guard-100
Up to 20 Genestealers and a broodlord
Up to 30 Termagnts with Fleshborers-150 full squad
3 warriors with Venom Cannon, 2 Deathspitters, ST, and Adrenals and/or Toxin Sacs-130 with all that.
4 Rippers-40
8 Spore Mines, though not a good idea-80pts
3 Raveners with Deathspitters-120
GK
Vindicare Assassin-145
What should I be using? He plays Vanilla and has
Dread with MM and DDCW( Black Reach)-105
Ven dread, as well above, with AC and DCCW with HF-185
Tac squads with any weapons.
Tactical Termies
Maybe some sternguard.
I am thinking either Hive Guard, the Flamer Tacs, or the dread with HF.
Please help.

As far as which army to use, I'd just go with which ever you'd have more fun with.
If you choose Marines, I'd definitely take some sternguard. I've been playing alot of Killzone (BigJim's killteam variant) and those guys are worth their weight in gold. All the ammo choices, access to weapons, and extra attack come in handy. The main thing in these games is cover, so camo cloaks and flamers are awesome too.
With 'Nids, I tend to go a bit swarmy. Termagants for screening and then you could maybe use genestealers for the infantry shredders.
What are the armor value restrictions? Are your forces opperating in units or are you guys making it so each model is independant?
Does synapse still apply? That might put some big restrictions on you too. Maybe see if you could get that restriction lifted like in Killzone. If not, genestealers might end up as your backbone, being independent as they are.
This could also be a great opportunity just to try out units in different ways for bigger games later on. Could be awesome zipping around with your scouts in a speeder just doing drive-bys  Well, hope I helped at least a little.

I am not even going to consider the Vindicare, as he will likely suck with no LOS.

Razorback with TL LC, Stormbolter, extra armour and Hunter Killer-110
Or
Vendread
Assault Cannon, DCCW w/ HF, extra armour-200
I want a list that can easilt take on both. As such, I am going with.
Zoanthrope-60
1 Hive Guard-50
18 Termagants for bodies-90
I am going to give my Zoany the EW USR, FNP to the Hive Guard, and 1 Termagant will have Stealth.
Does anyone have any suggestions about this list?
