In your wardrobe, looking for Narnia.

Hello Dakka Dakka Pew Pew Bang Boom friends.

A few days ago I found some tree seed pod shells on the street and decided they would make a nice creepy terrain piece. The spiky shells work really well as a chaossy/tyranidy thing, but to keep them as they are would be boring. I decided to add tentacles and make the whole thing slimy and disgusting. Yay!
The rocky base is made out of pieces of tree bark which I cooked in the oven for a while to dry them out. The tentacles are metal wire with yellow-grey milliput rolled around them and the giant thing in the centre is just a blob of milliput. The pod shells speak for themselves, all I did was position and paint them.

Nice.

Looks just like a mycetic spore opened.

How did you get that slime effect on the inside, is it some kind of resin? Or something a bit less professional?

That looks gross. It's perfect!

What'd you make the...let's call it "gloop," in the middle out of? PVA?

Err, I guess zilegil already asked that.

Thanks for compliments. <3
The ewwy white stuff in the middle is really simple... PVA glue mixed with a tiny bit of white paint and water, and glossy varnished for shiny slimy effects. The thready bits are a cheap transparent hobby glue painted white after drying.

won't it rot over time?

I hope not. There is a lot of paint and I varnished the entire thing so it should be safe. If it does decide to rot anyway it might just make it all seem even more eww.

Well, I once made a base out of dried chicken liver dog treats. Just covered it with lots of white glue and varnish, and it didn't look like anything had been rotting after 3 years, so hopefully you should be fine.

Also, the Tau schoolgirls idea gave me shivers :( my poor Tau XD haven't these 'nids done enough to them?

Great piece though if a bit... disturbing

Awesome bit of terrain! I don't quite think it would be large enough to be a Mycetic Spore Pod though.

For those who want to know, the shell/seed pod looks to be a horse chestnut shell (conker shell for you gents across the pond).

I had no idea what the English name for it was, we call it a kastanje here.

Awww, I think Tau are cute. But they do always beat me when I play against them... :(
Maybe you are right, they should be eaten. For the Greater Good and all that.
