Well when I've done similar its been for some or a few of the following reasons:
Practice, after all if you can free hand nails, you can freehand a shield 
test out designs
The person asked as they thought the design looked cool
I was bored 
Nice work and gave me a smile

Well, I know she won't, so that's not a problem lol...
Problem is, one nail will quickly grow bubons and decay, one will be ever-shifting shapes and hues, one will appear leathery and with piercings, one will get coated in brass and drip blood, and the last one will cover in spikes...
So it will be hard to get her out afterwards !
As for her mother, well... No.
