I sense friction between this and Dreadfleet...

Anyways the first wave is coming for you Uncharted Fans
http://www.spartangames.co.uk/

Spartan Games is proud and excited to be going back to where it all started a little over 3 years ago: Uncharted Seas. As we announced in July, Uncharted Seas is being given an overhaul and now we can show you what our design team have been up to.

Since we announced the re-launch the roll-out plan has changed slightly. The Uncharted Seas range has grown in 3 years and so instead of re-launching everything together we’ve decided to split it into 4 phases to make it more manageable. There will be 2 weeks between each phase.

Stock for Phase 1 releases will be available to ship from October 19th

A quick play rulebook?!

Well now... That's intriguing. I'll wait and see what the new Human fleet looks like.

Because now they have to make the terrible choice between playing a board game with boats in it or a collectible ship based war game? I'm not sure what the relationship is here unless you think that people can only own one game that involves model ships.

Sigh... yes, my life is ruined because someone is making a different boat game than the one I bought

Wait a minute... no it's not!

Thanks for your concern though

In all seriousness, I'm sure Uncharted Seas is a fine game. I wish all who play it much enjoyment.

Seriously agreed... can we stop grinding this axe to bits, guys? I'm really interested in both. Not a huge fan of the Uncharted Seas scuplts (I like the Firestorm Armada stuff more, at least some of the new concepts) but I just got to watch my first game in-person and am definitely considering it.

I'm starting to get alittle fed up with Spartan, since I've started playing their games I've had to purchase two Uncharted Seas rulebooks, two Firestorm Armada rule books with rumors of a third Uncharted rule book. Add on top of that, rereleasing minatures... No thanks Spartan, I think I'll keep my money this time.

I've been looking at Uncharted as well as Dystopian Wars for some time now and have decided the they are acouple of games I could enjoy.
I was just asking at my FLGS about Uncharted, but all he could see that was available currently is the rule book. I think I might end up getting the Chinese looking fleet when it comes out. The detail on the ships looks outstanding.

@ Catyrelipius - No need to buy a third revised rule book for uncharted seas. the third edition just has nice pics with the new figures in them instead of the older figures. No rules have changed. Cant figure out why your all worked up though. GW changes their rule book now and then (5+ times). You also have to buy a new codex now and then, at least with Spartan games you get both with the rules for half the price.

@ Relapse. the chinese lookin fleet is Ralgard and they have been available for some time. ITs 64$ for the whole fleet plus the cards etc. It can be had from some distributors for 50$ though.

I think those new shroud mage look awsome and it looks like they are offering more opitons in each box than they used to. NICE
Im excited. the new CGI of the Ork fleet look great. cant wait to have em. and considering that these were released on "talk like a pirate day", i think the timing couldnt be more fluffy.

Yes, it's terrible!

Now they have a horrible, absolutely disgusting 5' x 3.5' sea mat to play games of Uncharted Seas on. Everyone hates that mat, and agrees it is the worst part of dreadfleet that can't be used for any game other than dreadfleet.

I really don't get the "either/or" mentality among wargamers, like the people who think they have to sell off all their 40k models when they start playing warmachine because they believe they have to "break up with" one company before they are allowed to start dating another.

These are digital resculpts. The stats and functions of the models, but they have been resculpted with digital technology (rather than by hand out of putty and plasticard like the original sculpts) so that they have more detail and are an improvement in quality. The old ships have in no way lost their validity. It is like GW do when they revise sculpts so that this:

Pfft.

1. It's not self contained, who wants to spend more money once you have bought the original game?

2. It's not limited in anyway! Where the elitism in that? How can I impress and intimidate friends if they can just role into any old shop and buy it!

3. Seems a bit cheap, but thats just to lure you in. Beware shipmates, its a trap!

4. Zero, I repeat zero ships with steamhammers on them.

Pass!

Well, I don't feel any notion of company loyalty, but I don't exactly have the cash to spend on a $100+ ship board game when I don't like any but perhaps 1 of the ships and a collectible ship board game. Don't have the space to store all the minis either. So I've got to choose between which game gives me what I see is the best quality. ATM that's Uncharted Seas, though at the moment that's a purely academic distinction because Uncharted Seas isn't quite close enough to get me to put down the money either. It's just way closer than GW's pirate boat board game.

Yeah, my money is on the first scalper to put that particular item will price it at about £40/US$600/AUS$100 simply because it is the most transferable item in the box.

So are you still sure about that GBL?

I lol'd at this. I honestly can't see what all the fuss is about that silly sea mat. If that is what is driving you to spend $115 for DF then maybe you should rethink your purchase. Buy DF if you love the minis, and the idea of playing a self-contained game. Buy US/DW/FA if you want an expandable game with fleets that look like they belong together. Buy both games if you love them both, but please don't spend $115 just to get some fabric sea mat. A large piece of blue felt, which costs around $5, does just fine for me, thank you.

That hit the nail on the head. I don't want the game, but rather than not get it, I'll tell anyone that listens (in multiple threads) that I'm not getting it, AND I'll make them feel stupid for having a different opinion! What complete bollocks.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

That land raider was made with balsawood sculpts and putty. I have the white dwarf with the development shots. First digital cad was the eldar weapon platform I believe.

The thing that will make or break the UC update is the scenarios in my book. If they have REAL screnarios, then all for the good!

If not, I'll pass. I already ate it on FA and DW.

Those Ralgard ships look like junk.

Get it? Junk? AHAHAH!

Anyway, the issue I've always had with Spartan games ships (and this applies across all their lines... except maybe Dystopian Wars) is that each race's ships all look the same. Their smaller escorts are just smaller versions of their big battleships. Yes, aesthetics across a race would match, but they just look like scaled-down versions of the larger ships, and that makes everything feel more samey.

The models for Uncharted Seas do not inspire me any more than the models for Dreadfleet. In fact, GW's models are certainly more detailed and visually interesting than SGs. Still, having a game that is current and receiving ongoing support from the manufacturer should work in SG's favor.

I figure I'll buy into both and work out how to play them together. That way I can appeal to BOTH crowds.

The GW fans will love me for buying into DF sight unseen and the SG fans will love me for supporting the small scrappy company.

Of course.... both crowds will also not like me for the converse reasons.

What will I do!?

How will I live with myself!?!?!?

P.S. I dig the Shroud Mage and Dwarf ships. I want to like the Dragon Lords since the larger ships are awesome, but the little boats look goofy.

Also, they need actual dragons, like DF, not just tokens. That would really sell them to me. Of course, I might be able to pick some up elsewhere, DF/Ebay resale, etc.

The dragon lords fleet has never really interested me much, but the dragons that the dragon carrier carries are really small little guys. Im not sure how feasible there were to make out of metal for SG.

I agree though that the new dwarf and Shroud mage stuff looks awsome. Still i will try to hold out for the new orks....
