Well pretty much everything you need to know is stated in the subject.

My Cadian commander has recently taken a small plunge and all of the padding in the world couldn't prevent the oh so delicate sword from wrapping itself over said commander's head.

I've bent it back roughly but doubt that I could get the straightened look im going for without it snapping off.

So just wondering if there are any top secret insider tricks to bending metal swords back into shape.

or

buy a new figure/sword

or

cut of the old one off and try to re-create one out of some form of plasticard (probably a very, very difficult option)

Anything would be of enormous help and i hope that this situation is at least somewhat salvageable

I dont get you completely, but if there is a sword on his head, buy a new one.

Hahaha, the figure doesn't have a sword on his head, sorry for the confusion.

the model took a fall leading to the sword being very badly bent...

Oh alright
You should first try fixing it, and if it doesnt work good, you buy a new one.

you might try heating up the sword with a soldering iron to make it more pliable.

NOTE: The above should be done with extreme caution. Soldering Irons are very hot!
use pliers to hold the metal miniature, and use pliers to bend the sword to its correct position.

DO NOT USE YOUR HANDS to perform any of the aforementioned tasks.

Be safe!

Bend it back into place.

If that fails, get some duct tape and then paint over the tape.

If that fails, find another arm with another sword.

If you can't do that, give him a powerfist instead.

I was thinking so.

Don't think I've ever put as much work into a single figure as i have this one, so the preferred option would be fixing.

might try to flatten it out against something, thin piece of wood or something? Any idea if heating the metal up with make it easier?

White metal is so soft that it doesn't need heating to straighten

The problem is flexing back and forth too much which will break it

Quite like the idea of using some sort of splint
So carefully bend the sword straight then gently put back to correct position with something rigid (eg lollipop stick or part of one) to reduce accidental bending.
Hope that makes sense
Going to try this when cleaning mould lines

Plastic helps with boiling metal.

That sounds like a plan, I have almost got it straight except for a half way point where it kinks inwards (if that makes sense) i might file some of it back slightly

The splinting idea, not sure about plastic helping boiling metal :S

XD, well remember that plastic boils easily when you are doing this with plastic (gasp! 2 Orkmotikons!)

Well, I have attempted the best that I think is possible for fixing this. I pressed it against a straight piece of metal (flat modelling file) and pressed it against that.

By no means a pleasant fix but I think it'll have to do *sigh*

Cheers for all your help guys! some great tips in there

I you can find one a pair of pliers with no teeth on them are perfect for this, just put the blade down the length of the pliers and gently press down with the pliers, I had the same problem as you and this solved the problem real easy. If its the old metal cadian commander from the command squad then its the same model too

Omg, please DO NOT use a soldering iron. It will not get "soft and pliable", it will MELT.

Like others have said, large pliers, with no teeth, are the best bet. You'll want to get the whole length of the blade in the pliers so it can be bent all at once.

Worst case scenario, cut it off and replace it with a plastic blade of some sort.

you don't need pliers with no teehth to straighten, use a pair of pliers and simply put something smooth over the grooves. you can acomplish this by wraping in electric tape, or my favorite methd a few pieces of smooth metal taped (in my case welded) to vice grips. adds leverage for a good squeeze and in case it needs delicate pressure over time you can slowly shrink and lock it in place

Right, that is why you have to be careful and only heat the metal until it is pliable...

nectarprime wrote:Omg, please DO NOT use a soldering iron. It will not get "soft and pliable", it will MELT.

It will only melt if you hold the soldering iron on the metal too long.

you can use a soldering iron, but you have to be careful, and you have to heat up the sword for three seconds at a time until it is soft enough to bend back with pliers.

just do not hold the soldering iron on the metal for a long time, and you are okay.
