Well I had a productive afternoon - I made my first cornish pasty (very nice it was) and painted an eldar in the limited palette style - He isn't quite done I need to paint his base when the PVA dries and maybe add some more details. The question is, should I paint the rest of his gems blue or leave them white? Anyone have an opinion?

Mostly, on my phone.

I like the blue gems, it's a subtle and delicate contrast, which is at once at odds with the enormous gun o' doom and very, very eldar.

Lovely work, and a great figure. Reapers were some of the few eldar figures I did grab back then.

And a vote for blue gems here, graven has the reasons

Blue gets most votes so Blue it is then - It will help liven up the overall look. Give him a bit of bling as it were.

Briancj don't be embarrassed - retro gaming is cool. Balance of power sounds like an interesting way to pass the time - better than solitaire.

I have to go to work shortly and ask people if I can interest them in our fantastic deal on "cosy-soft" toilet roll. I feel like such a corporate whore. The toilet roll is neither cosy, nor soft, it should be call "cheap-scratchy". I wish I had a job looking after injured dolphins or giving out free animal balloons to children.

At a guess I'd say that handing out balloon animals to children would get you more abuse than offering customers bog roll

Eldar chappy looks fantastic Weety - and I'd have to go with the majority, deffo blue gems! And since I've been playing catch up, Gordon the beastman was gorgeous (but only in a painting sense)... The skin tones were off the charts! I'm afriad your Half Life reference went over my head though :(

You're not alone in feeling sick when playing Half Like Vik, my friend was exactly the same. Apparently it's a known phenomenomenomenomenon - the Googles bring up loads of results for motion sickness in relation to HL2, including here...

Edit: Just had a thought - Weety, have you thought of maybe flogging home-made oggies to the grockles instead of bog roll and pink socks? Much more dignified!

Looks cool with the blue gems in place. Interesting to see the effect of a muted eldar compared to the usual bright palette.

An idea for a diorama keeps banging away in my head. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might accomplish this? I want gnarled windblown trees, carrion crows, craggy boulders and a nice medium sized shell crater. And of course a dead guy getting his eye pecked out. Apologies for the terrible picture I seem to have forgotten how to draw (it has been at least a year since I last tried). Maybe there will be a few nurglings scuttling about relishing the decay. I have some imperial guard multi-parts for the corpse and plenty of gravel for rocks, but how do I do the base and the tree and is there anywhere selling 28mm scale crows? These are the problems that face me.

Neat idea!

You might use sculpting clay that air dries for the basic earth with some sort of earth and vegetation on top.

There are several plastic bit crows available in various Warhammer Fantasy sets. Take a look at the plastic giant set for one.

There are plenty of dried plants that look like small trees.

The base itself could be a plastic or metal lid that you spray black and maybe dull or gloss coat.

One trick will be getting your "earth" to adhere to the lid. Greenstuff would stick but that much of it would be a waste of money.

Yeah, milliput makes a good basing material. Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone else who does crows in 28mm, but I o know they're out there. Interesting twigs or small branches make good dead trees - as in fact do dead bonsai I've been thinking of using some of mine for just such a purpose - haven't bothered yet as dead trees don't fit so well into my current terrain fix (Mine all died after moving to the boat, they didn't care much for the windy conditions )

I'll have a look at them and see if any seem suitable for wind-blown.
