Hey! I'm new on Dakka. I've been playing orks pretty casually for about three years.
I also just starting my Dwarf army. In fact, my first real game is coming up this weekend and I'm looking for some advice on what strategies I should use.

I haven't played Dwarfs since 7th Edition. Back then some folks suggested to me to play defensively with lots of shooting... and something called 'castle-ing'...

Yeeaah. The plan is to be pretty shooty. So far I have 3 cannons and two 16 man squads of quralers listed. I might proxy a runepriest to slow dudes down and add to my counter-spell pool.

What will you use to slow them down on a runesmith? And you will rule at dispelling at low points levels!
And most people will swear by great weapons on warriors, and I think in some cases on quarrellers, because, i mean, we strike last anyway, may as well hit them reeeeeeally hard.
Good to hear you are picking up dwarfs though great army, great stories, great mini's and just generally cool!!

I guess I meant I would slow them down with Runesmiths. I was going to use their "Rune of Wrath and Ruin" ability to half their movement characteristic when I'm not shooting cannons at them.
And yeah, I'm hecka using great weapons on all my warriors. I hadn't thought about giving them to quarrelers, but that sounds like a good idea.
I know! I was wracking my brain to figure out what fantasy army I wanted to play, and at first I had my mind set against dwarfs because I wanted to do a colorful army like lizardfolk, but I started reading their codex and I basically fell in love. My friend also got me an anthology of Dwarf stories. It's awesome.

Sadly you need a runelord with an anvil to get that, unless that's what you meant in which case oops my bad.
That anthology from black library? yeah I found that enjoyable too Also the Gotrek and Felix books...a good fun read, nothing too cerebral but damn fun

Its all good! I should be more clear. But yeah, I intend to have a runesmith with an anvil, if the points work out. I'll be proxying the actual models somehow, but its only a casual game and they want me to have enough points to make it interesting.
I saw the Gortek and Felix books at borders while they were going out. They looked interesting, I should've picked them up.

Welcome to dakka I dont play fantasy myself but I have always loved dwarves in every fantasy setting I have ever read or used.

Yeah! Dwarfs are awesome! I'm really happy with my army choice.
So my first game went well. I lost by sort of a lot, but I think I did pretty well and I learned a lot.
