So I am once again going to build up my marine forces, and as usual I don't want to use one of the main chapters, so I came up with some color schemes and a bit of info/ background for each. Opinions on what you like the best or suggestions for chage is what I'm here for. Thanks for any replies.
Note on all background and fluff area, that I don't know much of the actual 40k storyline so some may not be cannon, again suggestions for changes are welcome.

Morning stars
Spoiler:

This is my old marine army scheme, alas all my pieces were stolen, 1500pts in marines, 750pts in eldar, and 2000pts in bretonians but i digress.

The Morningstar chapter's primary colors are:
  • Firey Orange
  • Blood Red
  • Chainmail

  • Info: The Morningstars are a breakaway chapter from the Blood Angles. They are Usually led by a Librarian, sometimes a Chaplain.
They excell in close combat and usually have take the fight to them and the ability for their regular squads to have a bolt pistol and closecombat weapon, as well as furious charge.
At least thats how I always ran them.

    Forever Knights
    Spoiler:

This army is based off one of the villian groups in the Ben 10 cartoon show there symbol is a sword with an infinity symbol as the hilt guard and is completely red.

The Forever Knight's primary colors are:
  • Chainmail
  • Blood Red
  • Chaos black

  • Info: The Forever Knights are their own chapter dedicated to purging the emporers universe of any and all xenos. They are usually led by a Chapter Master or Captain and fight as an all around army.

    Brothers of the Storm
    Spoiler:

First of the three new color schemes I came up with today.

The Brothers of the Storm's primary colors are:
  • Liche Purple
  • Adeptus Battlegrey
  • Mithril Silver

  • Info: Brothers of the Storm is cousin chapter to the Storm Lords. The brothers excell in Deep strike and terminators, kinda like Imperial Fists I believe.

    Sons of the Thorn
    Spoiler:

Second of the three new color schemes I came up with today.

The Sons of the Thorn's primary colors are:
  • Scopion Green
  • Skull White
  • Shining Gold

  • Info: Sons of the Thorn are a new chapter based off the fighting styles of the White Scars, Ravenwing, and Raven Guard.

    Ice Wraiths
    Spoiler:

Last of the new color schemes that I came up with today.]

The Ice Wraiths' primary colors are:
  • Chaos Black
  • Ice Blue
  • Burnished Gold

  • Info: Ice Wraiths were created by a company of Iron Hands that were stranded on a frozen planet. They like the Iron Hands excell in Tanks and heavy artillery

I know that ultimatly the choice is up to me, I was just looking for the opinion of fellow players. And the tactics for each chapter is just how I will start collecting the army, it will eventually be big enough to field what ever it wants with whatever tactics.
    Thanks again to any replies.

I would go with the Ice Wraiths. A good quality quartered heraldry goes a long way with the wow factor (lots of tanks helps too...)

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Colour scheme wise, I do like the green one and that quartered one (agreeing with Flinty here, it will have the highest wow-factor).

Fluffwise, you seem to approach the founding of space marine chapters in a way more suited to unorganized warbands - some guys breaking off and forming their own band and things like that. I find that does not roll too well with the established fluff. Chapters are officially created, without using the resources of any existing chapters.

There may be exceptions (the Sons of Medusa come to mind), but while I am not one of the people who say that every exceptional trait of a DIY-chapter must be explained (myth is nice, too), I recommend only using exceptions where it really helps add character to the chapter, because otherwise you end up with five unusual aspects, one of which is explained, and none of which actually do anything except look goofy.

For example, the Ice Wraiths.. meh. They could just simply be created from Iron Hands geneseed. They'd maybe be trained by a cadre of Iron Hands, thus retaining their organisations and beliefs. Having them be a company who was stranded doesn't really add any depth of character, and it looks strange, because they would just simply have returned to the chapter after being stranded had been dealt with (and if it hasn't, how come that company is now abroad? How come it has become a full chapter? Then that would need explanation in order to not break the suspension of disbelief, at least for me).

Also, here is me being a grammar nazi: things are not based off anything. They are based on things. You do not base a miniature off its base, do you? That'd be silly.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

The colors for the Ice Wraiths look really good. I think you should go with them.
I also agree that you should just make the Ice Wraiths use the Iron Warriors geneseed.

No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

First off sorry for any grammer fouls, I've been typing this during my breaks at work, plus English was never my best subject.

Secondly, as you can tell I'm not great at the whole orgin creation thing, I agree having a stranded company or anything of that matter is not a great background, I'm just not very good at comming up with things like that. I figure that I can slowly create a background and post it on Dakka as get help with it like that but thats a good start for the Ice Wraiths (and yeah I'm not in love with that name for them)

Lastly, this is all just for fun, obviosly this will end up being a very generic army anyways.

If anyone would like to help with any fluff or use any schemes go ahead I dont own colors...

Don't worry too much about the fluff then - start painting, and I'm sure something will develop. Going with a theme - so you can model and paint your minis accordingly - is a good idea, though.

So if you choose those Ice Wraiths, you can simply say "Okay, so these guys are the Ice Wraiths (future name change possible), they are Iron Hands successors, they come from a barely inhabitable ice world, which makes them put even more emphasis on the whole machine-worship thing." Then you have two strong themes: the Iron Hands' obsession with replacing bodyparts with bionics, which you can easily express on the models by using the respective parts (there are a few manufacturers of extra bionics, I think), and you have that ice world theme, which you can express by doing snowy, maybe also rocky bases - for that matter, have a look at some SW armies, I have seen SW minis with ice clinging to parts of their armour and so on.

I am doing a DIY, too, and at first I tried coming up with a complete Index Astartes article on them, but then I did not like it and just started modelling and painting, and am developing the stuff on the way there. It's a lot more fun that way.

That definitely sounds like a better way of doing it.

    Ice Wraiths...

The Iron Hands theme, or a White Scars successor chapter specialized in Hit&Run warfare, thus given the name ''Wraiths''

OK well it seems like the "Ice Wraiths" are the winner so far, not completly settled on them but I've always liked the Iron Hand style of battle.

I have done some reading up on the Iron Hands and found there is no chapter master but are lead by a great clan counsil and not all of the clans have been Identified. So this leaves me with the ability to make the Ice Wraiths a Iron Hands clan, and yes they will be winter themed.

Any one got better Ideas for the name of the Clan?

A better name than Ice Wraiths?...

I'll put some chapter names up (not neccesarily beter ones):

    Ice Warriors?
    Ice Breakers?
    Ice Raiders?
    Polar Knights?
    Iron Brotherhood?
    Snowflakes?
