So when I chose my dwarf army over some of my other options, one of the weighing factors was that a lot of other armies had cool, big, monstrous creatures. I liked seeing the hydras and dragons and stuff. I ended up going with dwarfs just because I prefer their flavor, but I almost feel like I might be missing out on getting to assemble and paint and play around with a giant, devastating, cool-looking monstrous creature.
In the meantime, my friends have predicted that dwarfs might be one of the next armies in line for a new codex. Obviously not the very next, but they think it may happen soon. That got me to fantasizing about what cool, monstrous thing I might find in it. What do you guys think? Whether or not its true that dwarfs are getting a new codex, what kind of awesome creature would you like to see added into it? And while we're here, what kind of monstrous things might you expect in any up and coming codex?

For dwarfs at least, I was thinking they might do some sort of large, alcohol-powered, warmachince. That might be cool.
I think i'd prefer to see something more along the lines of a slayer or a small squad of slayers riding on the back of like, some mountain bear or something fantastic like that.
What do you guys think?

My guess is that it's going to be a golem of some sort. Stone variety that looks like one of their elders.

1.) It's army book, not Codex.
2.) There are indeed rumours of dwarfs coming soon.
3.) Others field big expensive monsters, you shoot them first round with your cannons
4.) You can always play Storm of Magic and play those monsters too.
5.) Big things that would fit a Dwarf army: Zeppelin, ancestor cannon, mobile anvil or warmachine (golem fits more Chaos Dwarfs).

I don't think a huge monster fits my mental image of dwarves. This is why I play chaos dwarves. I also think you should convince your friends to try SOM. However, It's not hard for me to picture GW releasing some crazy mechanical golem, siege , or something to pop from underground with a huge drill.

Our FLGS does a tournament called dragon wars, in which each army gets a dragon, regardless of usual restrictions. I have always wanted to see a dwarven steam or clockwork dragon.

Every new army book has gotten a big ass hoodah. So a zeppelin or other riding unit would make perfect sense.

Maybe a mobile brewery.

But I can't see much in the way of actual monsters.

No Dwarf worth his liver of steel would waste good liquour on a machine, even if it is Dwarven.

You'd also run into trouble in the form of the crewmen drinking all the fuel, although it'd make one heck of a "Can't shoot until next turn." misfire reason.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Oh, I thought the gyrocopters ran on some alcohol based fuel. At least, that's what I read in one of the Warhammer books.
Yeah, I guess I don't see them actually getting any crazy monster, but these are some good ideas. A zeppelin would be awesome! And a mobile brew house sounds like the coolest thing in the world ever.

What other cool monsters do you guys want to see models of? It doesn't have to be for dwarfs, but, just for whatever army.

Dwarves are probably going to get some sort of Steam Tank analogue. A zepplyn or giant mechanical walking tank.

I do find it odd that dwarves have never tamed any of the cave beasts in the warhammer world.

That's because they aren't there for TAMING, they're there for regaining your honor upon by dying GLORIOUSLY.

On the topic of alcohol, I was under the impression that both the Gyro Copter and the Goblin Hewer ran on such a fuel. And besides, it would be fun to put a drinking dwarf in the gondola of the zepplin, doing a sort of one-dwarf bucket brigade into the fuel tank: "A shot for me, one for the blimp, a shot for me, one for the blimp..."

No big monsters, but a chariot pulled by stout mountain ponies or a digging machine might be nice.

Though I must be careful, lest I go off on a tangent on what would rebalance the dwarves for 8e...

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

That's kind of a good point. They're trollslayers and dragonslayers and demonslayers for a reason. Even if you could tame them. If it attacks dwarfs naturally, you can't really see them being tamed by the race as it would be an affront to some family. Not only that, but if they were populous enough that species would exist in the book of grudges and then they're really not going to be kept around.

For dwarves I would like to see the spirit of grungni airship from the Gotrek and Felix novels. that was a bigger than a dragon, had magic resistance, dropped bombs on people and a hanger with several gyrocoptors in it. You could even upgrade it to include Malakai Makaisson the mad drarven engineer/slayer and give it a bonus to BS or multiple wounds vs monsters etc...
