Since I've playing more I've been bit by the konvertin' bug again, so here's some pics to show what I've been up to, and hopefully, have finished!

Here's my Big Mek - I wasn't happy with using just the standard metal Big Mek with KFF, even though I liked the model. It felt kinda weedy for an ork leading a whole warband, and it just didn't feel right having a stock leader in my army surrounded by so much kustom and kitbashed stuff.

So I stole the parts I liked and started banging together a proppa Big Mek using the KFF and the controller arm. Since I might want to field him with a klaw, or a burna, or just a choppa, I decided to give him magnetized arms. I use the wrench arm when he uses the burna - you can see it attached to the KFF on the side there. If he uses the klaw or choppa then I just call the little burna part of his mek's tools.

And these next guys took me forever. Several weekends and a day off work got me four Cybork Nob Bikers and Painboy on bike, but without the bikes! Since so much of my army has a mad-scientist-stompy-robot-horde thing to it I couldn't just use regular bikes since they wouldn't fit as well, so I had to at least get the mad scientist and cybork bit in. I had some of the new warbikes to build, but I didn't want to tear apart those models, so I used the old warbikes I had sitting around and tore into those to make gyro-stabilized monowheelin' cybork nobz! I made sure to get some of the biker bases so I wouldn't be taking advantage of a smaller base like the Meganob bases (which are actually a bit smaller in surface area).

I made sure that the Dok can keep up with his charges (and greatest source of teef) by giving him a monowheel as well. He has a grot orderly with him to assist in quick fix-up jobs and to make sure the Dok doesn't forget to charge for his services during the excitement of battle (or surgery!). If you look you can see the grot has some pliers with a toof in their grip. And once he's been used in the game, just pop him off his magnet and you're set.

Here's the rest of the mob, one with klaw, one with big choppa, one with a kombi-skorcha, and one standard - though I might have to give one a bosspole if it's worthwhile. Their bases aren't done yet. but they'll have gravel and stone and some small gears in the dirt once I get going with them.

Hope you like, and let me know what you think or if you have any questions!

Over the hills and far away.

That Big Mek is wicked sick. Those mono wheeled bikes are very ingenius too. The tire tracks in particular are a nice touch.
Cant wait to see these all painted up.

Love the monowheel bikes, except I'd add some more engine bits on the backs, to balance the rather front-heavy look at the moment. And maybe orkify the tyres along the lines of the newer ork models?

Thanks much for the comments, guys. I appreciate it.

Clang - I do see what you are referring to, but I purposely gave them a more front-heavy look to get across a feeling of forward motion and speed. Perhaps it didn't come across. I am not sure what can be added after the engine block and the fuel tanks on their backs... I would want the additional gubbins placed higher up on the back to reinforce the 'inverted triangle' kind of silhouette that the models have.

I thought about adding the metal plates and bits to the tires, and I could still do that... I wonder how that would look from a color perspective, though, since the nobs already have a lot of metal on them to reinforce the cybork feeling. The dusty black of a tire might be a good visual break up to all the metal they will have. If not, I can always putty on some metal plates after they're painted and go that way.

My god, these are so awesome.

I wish I had seen these before I did my nob bikers, so I could have stolen all your ideas.

I'd leave them as-is. For me, at least, the speed of forward motion came across immediately. Once it was called into question and I looked a bit closer, I started thinking not about the length of projecting parts, but of the hypothetical weight distribution. Mentally tip these guys upright and relax their poses and I imagine they'd balance reasonably well. From a more artsy-fartsy angle, pyramidal composition (inverted, in this case) is rarely so rigid; once voids enter the picture, visual "weight" doesn't necessarily require physical/spatial symmetry to lend a sense of balance (harmony, in this case, as physical balance is intentionally sacrificed in favor of dynamism).

I'd call these a success, personally - immediate dramatic impact, with forms that invite, and then hold up under, closer scrutiny. Besides, I have no idea what you could stick up there without straining the illusion of function to it's breaking point (the most common pitfall among would-be Meks). The execution of the details of the builds is quite nice, as well - all the scratchbuilt parts have sufficiently orky character, while being clean and simple enough to have an apparent function. Can't wait to see these guys painted up!
