Been reading lots of comments about Grey Knights, Blood Angels and Space Wolves. Lots of people are not happy with them being more powerful than everyone else. Then someone always comes up and says "every new codex has been blamed for being overpowered". I can't remember seeing stuff about DE tho. And after handful of games against them, I find them very balanced... except against Tyranids.
So, I ask from all of you guys. What are your opinions about DE codex?
I'm not going to ask anything about Tyranids even tho they have a new codex We all know what it's like.

I don't really think so, but then again I haven't actually played a game against it yet. Also, you should add an option when doing polls for 'Uncertain.'

Nah, it's not overpowered. It's actually very well balanced, probably the best 'dex in the game right now in my opinion.

I've played against them once, with my Iron Warriors and got HAMMERED. Lost 2 rhinos and a predator within the first shooting phase. Yet I'd still say they're not overpowered, just by the fact that, had I been able to get in range to shoot back, they'd crumble.

On moon miranda.

DE are a very good army, but prone to win big/lose big.

The bigger and tougher and fightier and opponent is, the better they do. The smaller and weenier and shootier an opponent is, the worse they do.

Hence why DE tend to do rather well against stuff like Deathwing/Paladin armies and MEQ's in general, and get ruined by armies like Imperial Guard.

If they were T4, they'd be overpowered. As is, they're finely balanced.

I play DE and I find them very well balanced...albeit prone to either Winning fantastically or loosing horribly.

Although it is one reflection that I have never finished a game against Tyrannids....all 3 times (different people) have packed up and left by the end of turn 3...graciously surrendering

I find the Dark Eldar gained some cheap abilities. Like the blades on the bottems of the reavers and the Incubbi special rules. the one that boosts their stats with wins in melee.

I have played 4 games against Dark Eldar. I lost all four. I used different strategies against each one.

Nah Dark eldar suck, they work great on dumbs but fail hard against anything with dedicated shooting.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I agree with this fine gentleman. Dark Eldar basically run circles around anything that has limited mobility/relies on getting up close and personal. Get enough medium-strength, medium range shooting into your list though, and they crumple like tissue paper. (Speaking to opponents of equal skill, that is).

Not overpowered. Can be beat quite easily when you take away what makes them so dangerous, mobility.

I think they're balanced. I believe I can beat any codex or list as long as things go right for me - but I don't think I can hand a 'competitive' DE army to a newb and expect him to do any good at all. To my mind, for something to be truly 'overpowered' it should require minimum or no skill to make it work.

For me I find them to be very well balanced. They are by no means an insta-win army, you still have to have some kind of an idea of what your doing with them in order to win and even then thanks to dice rolls you can still lose. I really like the codex IMHO all the new ablities/special rules make sense fluff wise and help them on table but still don't promise a victory.

Simply put, no.

Their strength is seemingly overpowered, this being their cheap and abundant dark lances.

Their weakness is obviously apparent, they're extremely fragile. AV10, opentop transports. One explosion result can more than likely end up in the squad inside failing nearly all their saves. I took one down with a bolt pistol...

Agreed, but nonetheless, a very well balanced army.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Having played 'em for years. I would say that this codex is much more balanced than the old one. Yeah we got some new tricks (power from pain), but alot of things got streamlined that use to be OP (drugs especially for charachters, Dissentegrators being plasma cannons). Honestly they are pretty ballanced now. They are a "glass hammer." Yeah they hit hard with the first punch but if you are still standing (enough guys left alive) then their hammer broke like glass and they will get beat.
Win big or lose big.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

Luck based army, they rely on going first with 10av with 5++ units. I've had games where I've been blown up every craft on turn 1 and the game might as well have been called or ones when I've been assaulted turn 1 and every single assault has ended during my turn. So, IMO, no.

My Armies:
- Death Wing and Green Wing
- Tacticals and Devastators
- Retired

This is the most well balanced dex out now. I play several armies and can build power houses out of them but with the DE you have to use some finesse to make them work. I can build a BA army that would stomp my DE into the ground and my IG player regularly puts the hurt to me as well. The Nid players wreck me all the time and the necrons, well that book needs to be done bad. I can build an Eldar army that can destroy my DE but I'm a fluff player so it makes it easy for power house gamers to beat me. Gets me sometimes that playing isn't fun for them just winning and whinning when they don't.

Definitely win-big-lose-big. They suffer REALLY hard in certain matchups and perform very well in others.

DE's balanced.

Let me put it another way.

In my 4 years of playing 40k since right after the Dark Angels codex, DE is the most balanced book they've come up with for 40k. Ever.

I don't disagree with this. Insomuch as I want to take this thought out on a date and whisper sweet nothings in its ear.
