My friend and i bought the AoBR kit and she got the orks and i got the marines for my BT Army, now she wanted a specific ork model that we saw in the GW site a few months back for her army. It's a ork warboss with a metal faceplate and his background story was sort of like him being exiled and partnering with another warboss to start an army but they got into a fight and he headbutted the other warboss so hard that part of the other warboss mind merged with his resulting in him getting dual personalities and getting a faceplate placed on his head.

Not sure if it's a custom job or not but it was featured on a GW article that we saw which we can't seem to find now. If anyone has any info/feedback on this would be greatly appreciated

Interesting, I haven't heard anything about this guy. It's not any special character that I know of; Sounds somewhat like Thraka, but I'm sure you know who that is. I'll look around, try and see what comes up in the GW articles.

They probably used Ghazghkull Thrakka and gave him the head from the banner top of the Black Orcs. So the banner top shown here:

No the body of the ork didn't match Ghazghkull and the faceplate isn't from a black orc, from what i can remember the body type of the orc matched grotsnik more

Do games workshop actually make "rare" one off conversions from time to time?
If so are they generally sold to te public?
Its just that I have never heard of or seen a "different" warboss or any other model for that matter, that has not been a home conversion or kitbash.
And if they do, I must have one.

I think that may have been a conversion by one of the design team, showing off his army (they do that in What's New Today sometimes) or possibly one of the ones where they feature someone else's army that they sent in pics of.

I remember the article, though not clearly, and i'm pretty sure that the model is not available for sale.

The sweet thing about orks though... you can convert up your own

Yes. A number of the online articles and models featured in the magazine are heavily converted and will usually state that they are.

Looks like either a built up ork head using greenstuff, or a cut down ork bike faceplate.

I'd guess greenstuff.

Oh man, overstatement of the year award there. No, that warboss is actually smaller than Ork Nobz. Heck theyre about as tall as the Nob Leaders for boyz mobs. And I can get pics as proof if she's fussy

She meant the helmet that thing has on not the overall size of the ork

She actually wanted it for her warboss since for some reason she hated the warboss model that came with the AoBR kit

I thought that head looked familiar...I used it on an Ard Boy with a Black Orc body. I would guess that the axe is the Big Choppa from the Warbiker Nob, with the chain removed, a blade added to the end and the head swapped.

That axe is from the WHFB Orc Warboss kit.

The head is from the Nobz kit...

But the faceplate is a custom build right?

Wow the kit from Gorbab Ironclad looks amazing it is just a shame it costs £30 I really wish I could get just the ork.
