I tried to find decent shipping containers and scenery for infinity (to help keep down the ARO's) but also that would look good and play well for 40k etc but couldnt find anything so i decided to make and cast my own.
I thought id see how popular they are on Dakka Dakka before putting on Ebay or setting up a website.
I have put them in the trade forum so if people are interested or have any ideas for other scenery pieces let me know.
I was thinking of producing a yellow school bus barracade - how does that sound.
Also the first casts you see in the pics are made of plaster or polyester resin for cheapness to see how the mold worked so they have a few minor blemishes due to the nature of those materials, all orders will be produced in fast cast resin ,the grey one on the right of the wide angle pic is that material as are all the fences and barracades.

If you need hollow containers that opne, be on the look out for model railroad containers too.
O-scale should work for most 28mm gaming. An example of one I have is here:

Definitely something I would be interested in!
Please let us know if you do sell them, might also be worthwhile posting something on the official Infinity forums if you haven't done so already - I'm sure something like this would be popular.

Nice work! Not my theme for scenery (I'm doing woodlands and ruins right now), but definitely very cool. Thanks for sharing, and if I hear of anybody looking for these I'll send them here.

Nice model, but making them from solid resin means postage costs (and resin costs?) are really going to hurt you. Might be possible to easily make a hollow version, e.g. by inserting a styrofoam block into the centre of the mould?

Ooh! Or make a set of 6 molds - one for each wall, and sell it as a kit to be constructed by the purchaser. That would save a lot of your shipping costs... but I don't know if it would raise your overhead too much or not.

Those are not as detailed, and look too small for 28mm scale. I would personally cast in dental plster if I were you, gets goofdetail, and has all the good bits of resin for casting larger pieces, but is much cheaper.

Dental plaster is heavy and brittle (even more so than resin) - drop one and it'll shatter.
Other posters have linked to several fine assemble-it-yourself kits. Personally I think the OP's best market niche is as per the pilot model (one piece, ready to paint) but as light and sturdy as possible - tough enough to survive falling off a game table or being shoved in a backpack and rattling around with other stuff. Choice of resin will matter a lot - for this product you want something with a bit of flexibility.

I disagree, I use dental plaster cast, that can be dropped wnd it won't shatter, it is heavy yes. But I think you may be onto something there about the assemble it yourself as it will use significantly less resin and so shall therefore be cheaper. (in theory) Along with cheaper shipping costs.

If the mould is a single block you could pour the roof and when set insert a block of expanded polystyrene then pour the rest of the piece.

There are a couple of sites that have these in cardstock.
I have a couple. A little better then plucking down for a chunk of resin, and I can make as many as I want to.

thanks for all the feedback
i did look at making the container as multi part kit but the increased time to produce, extra molds and silicone, quality of finished piece etc didnt outwiegh the benefits of a solid piece. the same goes for the inset option, i tried it and it adds too much to labour at my production levels.
i appreciate it means more shipping cost but as i was making it for personal use it was irrelivant, the selling was a bonus idea and if they dont sell beyond the uk then oh well and i have had fun learning the mold making process and can make an awesome shipping container dock yard board. even just a couple on a board adds so much to the industrial/space base look (you dont see many military bases without a container in them these days)
The other thing that no one has mentioned though is the life span and durability of the alternatives inc flat pack kit. the solid containers will last several life times, they are so strong you can stand on them, at my local club they have been dropped and nothing happened to them.
thanks again for the feedback and suggestions

Very cool and quite useful. I'll add them to my article on civilian vehicles.
I think for most Americans the model train link will work better ($11 for a plastic one) but for Bits Fox 40 might be the better option.
http://www.trainz.com/p-218459-k-line-k78300r-ribbed-red-container.aspx
Fox if you're looking for ideas might I suggest some wrecked cars or trucks? It seems one of the obvious bits of terrain for anyone who's seen modern battle fields or disaster sites but so far only Armorcast offers any.
