Is the corvus 'beak' helmet the Assault Marines exclusive helmet?

I ask because I want my Assault sqaud to be fluffy and you only get 1 corvus per Assault Squad pack.

Any Marine can have a Corvus pattern helmet.

So fluff wise it would be ok for an Assault Marine to have say MKVII helmets?

Don't know if this changes anything but the chapter I'm talking exclusively about is the Raven Guard.

Yup.

Ok thanks, another question though. Would it make more sense to give the Assault Sgt the corvus helmet rather than it being on a random Marine?

Yup. Corvus helmets are more prized and rare then Aquila Pattern helmets, so it would make more sense for a decorated veteran to get one.

I try and put beakies as assualt squad members, because they look cooler. 7/10's of one my vanguard squads are beakies.

I've actually seen that, and it's awesome. I more meant though that I just want a single plastic sprue with 50 beakie heads on it. Also a golden toilet would be nice.

It can be used by anyone. Yes, it's fluffy for Assault Squads to use it, but since it's an old piece of tech it's often given to distinguished memebers of the Chapter. It's not compatible with the newest mark of Power Armour, Errant. If you end up having any models with it, for fluff reasons they can't normally use older helmets and the like.

Also the mk6 power armour is lighter and has better fitting joints than the other marks, as well as an enhanced sensor suite in the helmet... And it looks so much better than mk7/8.

Eye of Terra.

Beak helmets look like crap to me.

The beak contains additional 'sensor technology' in the mk VI that was deemed unnecessary in the subsequent MKs apparently. The helmet is not exclusive to assault squads...

Raven Guard wear more beakies, but due to the dropsite massacre they have a very reverent outlook towards older marks in general.

It is not because they are "Ravens" and want to wear beaks, it is because the old armor is rare and was worn by brothers that were betrayed and/or survived the massacre. It's an "old armor" thing and not as much of an "look at me I'm a bird, lol" thing IMO.

That said, 6/8 of my Vanguard Vets wear a Beakie, but only because they would have had better access to older suits of armor as befits their rank. If I get my hands on some of the older marks from FW I will probably change out a few of the beaks.

I think one of the things I really like about beakies is they're a much more unique design compared to the more modern helmets that look like stormtrooper/cylon mash ups.
