I was looking at the IG Master of Ordnance. It says he can call in an artillary strike. Do you need to have the actual artillery models for the artillery strike or is it assumed they are out there?
Thanks

Nope. It's just like a SM orbital bombardment. Just place the pie plate and roll.

Well, can't move if you want his pie-plate to drop.

Space marines: 25 points for one shot, or (guard) 30 points for a shot each round, hmmm...

S10 AP1 =/= S9 AP3. Also, the MoO always scatters, orbital bombardment does not.

I want to like the MoO, I really do, but he's just so meh.

Ah but you dont take the master of ordanance against space marines. You take it against bugs and orks. Then you cant miss. I would personally perfer the orbital strike relay from GK's

I wanted to like this guy since the codex came out, using him with the Mortar barrage rule was cheap yet effective until they FAQ'd that out.

Now I see him as a waste of 30 points as that's 2x Plasma guns or 3x Melta guns. Heck the OoF is significantly better than him in any "serious" game imo

OB scatters the full roll, no minus for BS.

Orkses is scared of Boom-maker 'Ooman. Honestly, it doesn't seem so bad against the right armies. I wouldn't include him all the time, especially if I knew I was going up against MEQ's, but pretty much anything else could suffer. Including Eldar and DE.

It subtracts the BS, but only if the MoO has LOS.

It really depends on what sort of guard list your playing too. Is your CCS constantly on the move? It it built for combat? Or do you use it as an anchor? If you allready have a heavy weapon in it, Take the MoO, If you plan to be on the move, dont.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!

Yes, MOO does subtract, but you will note that helgrenze wrote "OB", which would be Orbital Bombardment(the Chapter master's special rule), which does not ever subtract the CM's BS(like, it is specified in the rule).

Don't bother except for fun games. MoO is too inconsistent for more competitive play.

But using a MoO allows you to yell FIRING FOR EFFECT! possibly up to several times per game

I find that they are also useful against armies with a large number of vehicles. Its quite hard to scatter off that many large models.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

So, how exactly do I use him? Do I call where I want him to aim, roll hit and scatter dice and place the template from there multiple times? Not quite understanding how his hits work.

You use him the same way you use other Ord Barrage, with the exception he always scatters, and IIRC he uses 3 dice + Scatter

Actually I think he only uses 3d6 if an arrow is rolled, otherwise it scatters 2d6 in the direction of the little arrow on the *Hit*. I might be wrong, don't have codex.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

My buddy usually just keeps him all the way in back, can draw LOS on nearly the entire board, and just about nothing can reach him. If something does get in shooting range, that's where Wound Allocation fun comes in.
