Hopped over to my FLGS in West Tennessee. Ordered an Assault on Black Reach with the intent to keep the marines, ebay everything else and so got to clipping once I got home...

...only to find out that the Nobz, Orc Warboos, and one deff kopta was missing. Basically the whole sprue they came on. So i took it back, explained it to the store owner who took the old box, and ordered me another without a question.

That was a friday. Today I went to go pick up the new one. Store owner gave me the box with the missing bits and said "Thanks for being patient with us!"

UM...WHAT!? How awesome can you get!? Now I have a massive marine army, as well as extra orks to sell!

Your local gaming store can be pretty friendly.

What's the best experience you've had at your FLGS?

The store I used to go to in Phoenix (Imperial Outpost) was amazing, I swear the owner never slept, but he works his back end off opening early, staying open late, always has new games on demo, ect. On a more personal level when I was a broke High School student, he once knocked like 15% off my purchase because I was buying alot of stuff (at the time, was maybe $250) at the time I thought that was awesome but pretty normal, now I realize he just saw me dumping my paycheck in his store and cut me a break for no real reason then to be nice

The local one here is pretty good, but I haven't developed a relationship with the owner one way or another yet.

My FLGS is great. I can order any hobby thing I want through them, and if for some reason they can't get it at trade, the manager will buy it retail and pass it on to me for no profit.

There's also all the usual trimmings, of course, like a 10-20% discount for regulars, lots of free gaming space, etc.

Haha...our local FLGS owner has a wife who abhors a mess.

It's the neatest, most orderly gaming store I've ever been to. Always swept hardwood floors, terrain that's always put up at the end of the day, etc. They even set up a special table area for people to paint miniatures so they don't get paint on the nicer tables.

Additionally, the owner has a great attitude. He's always smiling, always takes time out to discuss games with new members, and will even hold impromptu late-night gaming if enough people want to stay.

Had a good one, many years ago. We could order pizza, hang out on the couches and talk crap. Gaming was Thursday and Friday nights and Friday nights often extended until sunrise Saturday).

We were always able to stay later than closing time at our LGS, since there were a lot of regulars that always hung out there, and the owner also used to stick around way late. Was nice when we didn't get started playing Warmachine til 9 or so, and gamed til midnight.
I was also able to get the hardcover copy of Hordes Primal Mk2 at the softcover price - I'd preordered it, and the owner found out that the only copy he'd be able to get was hardcover, so he offered to sell it to me at softcover price. I thought that was pretty awesome.

minus being cash strapped to the point of allowing known cheaters to play in events because they bankroll the store, my LGS is solid.

Seriously, make your way down to Campbelltown and stop in to Hall of Heroes. Especially in February. They're running a 24 hour Apocalypse game. There's an entry fee, but that covers meals (probably pizza on top of pizza on top of pizza).

The manager at my flgs once gave me an old ork codex, and i don't even play orks. I thought that was really cool of him. But he's retired and now we got a new manager who seems ok.

My store is changing hands book shoppe in Joplin Missouri. (www.changinghandsjoplin.com) and the owners are the best people I could ever imagine.

In one form or another, I have been gaming there for 16 years and often look to John and Susie, the owners, like family. John supports several games, like large strategy games like tide of iron, axis and allies, and bombers and blitzkrieg, to miniatures to ccg games like magic the gathering.

I often judge the magic tournaments for John, with a close friend of mine and I can say that changing hands is by far my areas premium store, offering late gaming every Friday, Wednesday, and sometimes on Saturday.

Check them out if you are ever in the Midwest. You'll see me there...

Holy crap, someone beat me to the punch on promoting The Game Room? How did this happen?

I'm giving a +1 to the Game Room in Washington, IL (a bit east of Peoria). It's my local hang-out and the shop owner has given me some good deals in the past.

My own personal experiences:
- I was hanging out around the front and I saw he had a few issues of Warhammer Monthly (issues 1, 2 and 3). I asked what he wanted for them and he just gave them to me. And now I want the whole set of 90-ish comics.
- I was given the opportunity to raid his bits box for some misc pieces he thought he wouldn't be able to sell otherwise. Wound up with some nice RT-era shoulderpads and a few other bits.

Sure, that was a couple instances where the shop owner thought he wouldn't be able to sell the stuff, so he just gave 'em to me, but still. He and his son both play 40k.
Friendly staff and (mostly) friendly patrons.

The game store near me has a good reputation and I've stopped in to buy things a few times, mostly RPG related. The folks behind the counter are polite enough.

However, I'm not yet desperate enough to try looking for games at a game store, so I can't speak for the crowd there.

I hear the guys on The Independent Characters plug this place almost every week and it makes me very, very jealous!

My FLGS is tiny, in the back hallway of a building, and only has enough room for two tables. I donated all the terrain. It's got a decent selection of GW stuff for the price, along with heaps and heaps of boardgames and RPGs. I'm actually surprised it fits all that stuff in there. Regardless, I love the store! I've spent more than a few days hanging out there shooting the gak with the manager til closing, worked with them selling games at PAX East, and taken over a few shifts here and there. For being the resident 40k guy and being generally helpful around the store, I get free White Dwarfs, 20% anything I buy, and they'll order GW direct stuff for me. Do I wish the store was bigger with a concrete gaming group and all that entails? You betchya. However, it's better to have a small FLGS than no store at all!

The nearest FLGS to me are GWs, I rarely bother with them but they have always been very friendly and never full on with the sales malarky.

However I tend to go to Wayland Games since finding out how close they are to me (about 25 minutes drive).

They have always been very friendly to me when I arrive unannounced with a list of items. Their many staff are all pretty cool to chat to and quite happily shoot the breeze with you and let you in on their super-secret plans!

They have gone above and beyond what I would expect from a shop giving me free stuff and extra discount. Prime example, while discussing various thinners for airbrushing, they gave me a bottle of Vallejos [then new] AB thinners to see how it worked for me. Another time they gave me a KR card case which they couldn't sell (slight rip) when I had come in to buy one.

Only a few quids worth of gear but it really made my day and turned me from a good customer to a big fan of theirs.

I got told about their planned expansion and gaming area quite some time ago and have been really looking forwards to having a nose about when they finally move in. I expect to be a regular when this gets off the ground.

Mayhem Comics in Des Moines, Iowa

Mayhem is all around awesome and a great place. Big game room, tons of terrain and game boards. Great people to play any kind of game imaginable with just about. Most all the staff know a lot about something the store does (i dont know comics or cards but i know minis and board games) because there is no application, the managers just picks guys from the regulars when he needs a spot filled.

I think the big customer friendly thing has to be the event prize support. Every $1 in cash in entry fees gets turned into $2 in store credit to give out as prize support, minus only stuff such as trophies ordered or skimming for more terrain ect, but the store keeps none of it.

I have nothing but positive experiences with my FLGS (plural).
Showcase Comics~
Everyone has head Mikhaila's praises from gamers. I feel blessed to be near a shop that has so many events, has a great owner who plays when he can, and has a gaming club/ 2 now I think who helps out. I wish I could make it more. Unfortunately, real life took over this year, it happens to all of us. Several examples include: constant advise on painting at GT's. Not just bland comments but actually real tips: highlighting black with blue, proper color palletes, army comp. Store with great inventory, the ability to order everything.

Gamesworkshop Voorhees~
Many will sneer that "its a GW." However, the guy running the store, learned from Mikhaila how to run a store. Mike D runs fun events for all age / ability levels. He's one of the few GW managers who actually stresses "learn to play here, but don't pass an opportunity to goto a GT." When he hears of an event, you learn about it. He's on top of basic things ~ email blasts which are not wordy, teaches painting, and all around a great guy.

I'd strongly recommend going to events at either store. Both have stayed in the area when others have folded.

I can second the Voorhees GW being pretty alright. It's got the least used-car-lot vibe of any GW I've ever been in and the dude who works the counter is extremely friendly. It's been a great shop for years though, going back to before it was a 1 man show.

It's funny how many shops in the area are run by people who were trained by mikhaila - Redcap's in philly also has some ex-showcase staff who are really spectacular shopkeeps.

My FLGS is GW preston. The manager once subbed me £1 when i found i only had £7 for a spinetail model(yes myn is one of the few rare shop bought ones).
he lets us eat instore(provided it isnt hot) and there is a kettle(youve got to provide your own drinks though).
weve also got Gaz. hes been there since (i think) my 25 brother started. hes a cool guy and you can have a good conversation with him whenever.
when its cold weather(as it will be in a few weeks) we are sometimes allowed to eat instore.

My Old FLGS bought out an entire movie theater for all 3 of the Lord of the Rings opening movies and gave me a ticket for each one for helping them out! Our entire store gaming community went down there for every movie and partied afterwards at the store and other places!

They also use to close the store at 6 pm Fridays and let some folks stay to use the LAN for LAN parties, AND let us have beers! Woo!

Those were the days!
