Foolproof Falcon Pilot

Hey all,
I'm currently spending a few tens of minutes working on my side army, and have come to an obstacle: my first vehicle. I've never painted an army with this kind of colours on vehicles before (my Orks having chromed-out monstrosities, and I played Iron Warriors back in the day...). I've been following the guidelines in the 'How to paint space marines' book religiously, and I was very pleased with the result on the basic troopers. I tried to follow the guidelines for vehicles (page 32), which stipulates basing with Ultramarines Blue, then drybrushing Shadow Grey, Shadow Grey/Space Wolves Grey, Space Wolves Grey over it. But it has come out a bit wrong, and doesn't match the colour of my basic troopers. I used a flat tank brush, which I suspect may have been overkill. What should I do at this point? Should I go back and re-paint the flat sections Ultramarines Blue?
Any help that you can give would be hugely appreciated!

i would give it a heavy asurmen blue wash, at the moment it looks more Space Wolves than anything else. the go over the details in which ever colours you have chosen to be the accent colours, it looks like red and gold to me. and give the storm bolter barrel, multi-melta, and other metal details a coat of chailmail followed by a badab black wash. it should make it all look really gritty and battle-hardened

You can try putting a blue wash over the top of this. Lay the model down and prop it so that the major panels are parallel to the ground and try two or three washes and you will see a much bluer finish. Or- you can strip and repaint it- using much less grey/ much thinner grey. Or- you could repaint it and follow the hard edge lining with blues - as found in the Black Templars color section. Good luck. PS. your marine figure looks great- what i can see of it.

Washing the whole thing might make it a bit shiny. Another easy fix you can do is to go back over the panels that have been lightened with the original base colour. You'll then end up with a deeper blue model with drybrushed edges. You might even get a neat weathered effect depending on how much of the edging you leave exposed.

from your pics it looks like you painted the Marines with Regal blue for the base( or is it Enchanged Blue?I forget) and Ultramarine blue for the highlight, correct? I would just paint it to match that instead of going by the paint book. In other words, thin down some Regal blue(or again Enchanted blue if thats what it is) and paint right over the areas you want to keep blue. Do it in thin layers and do as many as it takes to look smooth. Don't waste time and paint repainting parts that will be metallic like the legs, hydraulics and melta parts. Then go and highlight the edges with your ultramarine blue(thin it a little). Worry about the metallics and detailed bits later. Test it out first on something like the shoulder or the power fist first.
