rather focusing on the jump pack variant for 6" moves

many people in my shop are telling me if I choose to (situation / terrain depending) i can make my jump infantry (XV units)
walk instead of using their jump packs....Now pardon me for bringing up this noobish question but I cannot find anything in the BRB
that states I have this option.....im starting to feel very stupid since many people are telling me that I can do it this way :S

please good folk of DakkaDakka.....make da call ^^

It's a mode of walking that is available for them since they are also Infantry, however, when it comes to other effects like Murderous Hurricane (?) it's less clear-cut.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

It's on page 52 (the Jump Infantry rules) 2nd paragrah.

It details that JI can move up to 12" using their jump packs. It then goes on to say that this is optional and that they can instead move as normal infantry if they wish.

aha, i dont know how i missed that one.

Thank you for pointing that out.

A follow up question if I may and please excuse me if It is very noobish :p

at the bottom of 52 when describing the type of JSJ jet packs that Tau use IE 6" movement 6" assault phase
would it be accurate to say that these units don't get the benefits of a jet pack when they choose to move as normal infantry IE no 6" assault move or relentless?

They would lose the relentless if they moved as normal Infantry, but would still be able to use the 6" Assault phase move.

And why would that be, don_mondo? The rulesd don't say that they lose their advantages by walking. Doesn't even hint at it. Walking doesn't stop them firing up the Jet Pack for a moment to fire a Railgun into their enemy.

This is incorrect. as long as you are the unit type: jump infantry (jet pack) you have relentless (tau have a little exception to this). it doesn't matter how you move in the movement phase you still can jump in the assault phase, but in the assault phase you must move like jump infantry and take dangerous terrain test.

Relentless comes from them being jet-pack infantry, and isn't linked to how they choose to move in a particular turn.

@Deadshot - the thing that stops them firing the railgun is the fact that crisis suits don't have them and Broadsides aren't jump infantry

It was just an example. I couldn't think of any other heavy weapon.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I disagree, it clearly states in the Tau codex on p27 to use jet pack rules only, ''Crisis suits are jump infantry that are subject to jetpack special rules"

therefore can only move 6'' in movement (unless running, but then can't shoot) then 6' in assault phase.
