Ok, i know there are a lot of threads about the hexrifle and the use of
FNP against it being allowed or not. I have my interpretation, and would appreciate feedback directly stating why the chain of logic I'm using is not accurate or legal.
Unit gets hit by 5 hexrifle shots. Three manage to wound with a 4,4,5 and two wound with 6's, which cause rending on sniper rifles.
The unit fired at is a squad of 4 plague marines and an independent character (lets say abby).
The 3 regular wound are taken on the marines. Two pass there 3+ save, one fails it. The two rending wounds go on a plague marine and on abby. The ap2 means the plague marine does not get an armour save or his
FNP roll, so he is removed as a casualty. Abby has a 4+ invuln, which he unluckily fails.
So we have the debacle that seems to exist in determing the order of effects. Lets do abby first.
Abby has 4 wounds on his profile, so he must roll a 1,2,3, or 4 to pass his wounds test. He manages a 3, so he continues to live and fight, but still suffers the 1 wound.
Now for the plague marine. He has failed his armour save, thus triggering both the
FNP special rule and the hexrifle characterstic test. Here is my take on it: do both, they're happening at the same time and do not apply to eachother.
-If you take the
FNP roll and fail, and the model has only 1wound, it d

ies anyway.
-If you take the
FNP roll and fail, and the model has more than 1wound and fails the wound characteristic test, it is removed from play.
-If you take
FNP and pass, you still take the characteristic test against your wounds value. You do this because the
FNP roll can only be taken AFTER an unsaved wound has happened, which triggershe the hexriflewound characteristic test. All
FNP allows you to do is ignore the injury, not the wound. I picture this as a plague marine being shot square in the shoulder and not caring in the least, firing and fighting as normal. Is he wounded by the shot? Yes. Does he feel the pain from the wound? Not in the least.
So, thats my two cents. Thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated. Theres a case of beer riding on this little debate at the hobby shop!
