Hi
im sort of new to 40k, i have started to play before a few years ago but fail to learn the rules because i don't know any one who can teach me so i gave up. This time im planing on joining a gaming club to learn the rules but before i do i want to have a basic army set up.
what i want to know is what is a beginner friendly army to start playing with. before i played with Tyranids but made a bit of a mess with the models just putting on them what i thought looked good. now i fancy a change of army. i like the idea of imperial guard but from what i have seen on the internet they are not beginner friendly and seem hard to play. i was also thinking of necrons however i would like an army that is interesting to paint. also my brother is starting to play 40k with me and is getting the grey knights, i would like an army that can match them in a game.

can any one suggest which army i should try m open to the idea of any army and any tips on starting to play with that army.

Thanks for any help you can give me

Welcome to Dakka!

Actually Imperial Guard can be a very beginner friendly army. With the right build, you can basically sit and shoot for the first few turns of a game. What points level do you expect to be playing at?

i was thinking of at first getting a 500 pt army to learn the rules but i am tempted to try out a larger force maybe 1000, i think 500 would get a bit dull after a short while. can you suggest a basic build for an IG army?

Welcome! Starting with a small army is a good idea - that way if you don't like them much you won't have too much invested when you start another

Thanks for your advice. ill now try and reconsider my army choice, seems a shame tho that the best way to learn is to get an army i don't like the look of first and then buy a different one.

once again thanks for all of your advice
