Hello everybody,
I'm here to, hopefully, gets some tips on becoming better at 40k.
(I already have the BRB and templates so I dont need AoBR)
the first part I have to do is choose an army, and that's where I'm stuck.
I either want to do Black Templar or Imperial Guard.

Here are the things I like in an army:
I like assaulting, but also the ability to fire when need be.
Tanks, I love seeing tanks roll across the battlefield.
I want to have some challenge when playing. (My main opponents will be tau and sisters of battle)
Lots of customization on the miniatures.
I want my army to stand out from the crowd.( I dont want to blend in with everyone else)

My friends said we will be playing at 1500 points, so if that helps.

If you like assault, then go for the Black Templars.
The last thing you want to do with Imperial Guard is assault.

From what you said about an Army ..... Definatly go Black templars (or space wolves) you can paint them your own colours and make your own fluff easily and you can always customise marines for example why not try giving your BT's Blood Angels Sanguinary guard torsos, etc etc mix and match and make them unique xD, unfortunatly Tau wont be much of a challange unbless the player is skilled, but sisters can be brutal if they have spent the money on them.

I saw both armies pop up frequently when I matched them with the criteria so pick whatever you want. Maybe you could do both.

Well thank you for helping me, I went to GW today and got the BT codex.
So this begins my real start on dakka, and I hope it will be epic.

it will be as epic as you make it to be, black templars are awesome when played right (and totally overpowered imo) and lately i havent seen very many...while everyone at my lgs has guard to some extent (i have the largest collection at 5k points)

Welcome! Good choice going with BT! I started out guard, then branched into vanilla marines, and now I'm buying BT myself. Too much stuff to build!!! Enjoy your time here.

I recommend you to start IG because it's more human army and I like military style more than medieval)
