Hi, Dakka. Now, I had an idea for my Biel-Tan Eldar. I thought of buying some Guardsmen, and having them all torn up on the bases of the Biel Tan. In your opinion, is this okay to do? My friend hates the idea, and calls it a fail.

Definitely a win, especially if that particular model absolutely destroyed some guard.
It's a nice incentive for your models to do well.

Total win. If you want to model your army as victors over the guard do it. Just realize you are buying them for aesthetics half this hobby is about modeling anyway. Do what you want, just own it and rock it.

Yes, it is completely wrong. It makes you literally worse than Hitler, Bin Laden, and Cobra Commander all combined into some hideous supervillain chimera.
No, jeez, it's completely okay. I don't see why this is even a question. Also, anyone who "calls it a fail" is objectively wrong for using that stupid terminology anyway, so go nuts. People model corpses and such on bases all the time.

I do the opposite and actually have remains of my own side on the bases of my models, to show their relentless advance

I biy a model sometimes just to paint, or if i get an interesting modelling idea.
Sometimes if one of my models does something awesome (like the grot who head-shotted Calgar, for example.. ) they earn a base ornament, or even retirement from the field of battle and a place in a nice diorama

For base decorations, it is NEVER wrong, so long as you make it look good and put pics up here. for other uses, tread carefully.
I have a tau fire warrior being crushed in one of the Klaws on Doctor Orktavius, and i have seen Wraithlords, Sentinels, and dreadnaughts with half (or less) of a model under their feet.

That is when you know that you are getting into this hobby. Your model does something so ridiculous it should not even work IRL, so then you either pimp them out or show them off.
And this is something I will do
Also, +100 skillz to that grot.

Several of my ork nobs with PK are actually fighting Khorne marines on the bases. One has a marine held by the head in his PK and the poor guys feet aren't even touching the ground. Go do what you love and to Hades with the "Fail" crowd.
|
The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

To the OP,
It's actually a fairly common and accepted way to add some charachter to your army and it's bases. As some have said, just try and make it fit your army. I.E. the dead enemies of the Eldar will likely not be as bloody as they might be for Chaos.
IIRC, I think a previous edition of the space marine codex even had a tyranid hunter Ultramarines unit which was supposed to be identified by various Tyranid trophys.
I've never done this on a mini base, but when my friend was playing Tau, I did make a piece of scenerly using a Merkava (has slightly tau'iush lines) tank and some tau bits to make a ruined tau hovertank terrain piece. It even had a charred Tau arm sticking out of the hatch.
Just to taunt him a bit...
