So while scanning the web for cheap post-apocalyptic vehicles, I came across some great replacements for space marine vehicles that could be used to make a post-apocalyptic space marine army. Fluff is still in the works

http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=270 Rhino. Almost exactly the same size (about 0.5 cm bigger), and at less than half the cost too!

http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=286 Razorback. Same scale as the Iron Grumbler, so same scale as a rhino/rb.

http://shop.ramshacklegames.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=340 Dreadnought...again, same size. I feel that it doesn't really fit into the 40k aesthetic very well though.

Troops will be standard Space Marines (maybe Chaos?) painted to look like they have rusted armor.
Thoughts? Opinions? Recommendations?

Edit: Plenty of the other figures on the website would make good beasts (if I go with chaos) or a basis for a character.

Looks good to me! The "Dreadnought" would need some conversion, though.

I like this. I think it would be more suitable for Ad Mech Imo, but it does look pretty neat.

Make it a Nurgle army that's based on decay and corrosion rather than rotten flesh.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

I think it's a little too barbaric or wasteland-ish to be Ad Mech though. I was thinking more along the lines of a rogue mechanicus type force. Maybe a human mining colony on a death world, and this acts as their military?

Edit: I like the Nurgle suggestion. Are you talking along the lines of The Cleaved?

That would work for IG, but the guy wants to use this for a Marine army. Maybe a succesor of the Iron Warriors that is into this sort of things?

I'm the OP.

I don't think the Iron Warriors have successors though, being a traitor legion. Do you mean a splinter warband of them? It could also be a traitor successor chapter of the Iron Hands.

There are also several models on the website that would make a good base for an obliterator conversion.

Instead of the Ramshackle robot, I'd either mess up a GW dreadnought or convery an Ork one. I can only see this as an army of Space hobos, btw.

Care to explain your reasoning?

Ramshackle equipment, hastily welded together junk for armor repairs, and bits of scavenged equipment from everyone they kill. For some reason that all leads to "space hobo" in my head.

That sounds more "ork" than "space hobo". I see what you're saying, but that's not really the look I'm going for. I'm thinking something more along the lines of Proiteus's Kroggs:

I can see the Nurgle Marine idea, but those models really scream "ORKS".

That is a great idea, to use it as a squat army! Although I don't want to use the term "squat". Demiurg Scrappers, maybe?

So which do you guys think is better?
"Squat" Scrappers?
Corrosion-based Nurgle?
Barbaric/Wasteland themed Space Marines?
All ideas are welcome!

I'd say, either scratch build a dreadnought, or mess one of the existing walkers up, I honestly think a converted sentinal would look better actually.

From the picture next to the ruler, it's 18 cm. long. The ork trukk is about 12 cm long. If you leave the dozer blade of though, it makes the Ramshackle truck about 15 cm. long, which should probably be close enough.

Well, yanno..

In the Salamander novel by Nick Kyme.. the Marines Malevolent are portrayed as VERY low on resources, and would make use of ANY equipment to continue their cause..

Plus, they are dirty yellow with black lightning bolts as a color choice..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

I like the idea, but only if you call your chapter "Space Hobos".

Also acceptable: Grimdark Space Hobos.

If you do get stuff from Ramshackle, you'll be pleased with the quality and service, I suspect. Curtis makes good kit.

Wow... those are awesome. Screw the FW stuff I'm gettin my Orks some of those!

BTW to OP, I think this would make for a great marine army.
Maybe they could be a chapter that spends way too much time deep in Ork territory.
They could steal Ork tech and metal plates. Use Kustom-Mega Blastas instead of melta guns and such.
Isn't there a human element in Gorkamorka? Greenies or something? You could have a chapter that recruits from those guys.

I would like to see Ramhackle Hammernators! Bits of pipe and corrugated iron!

Hammernator from Ultramarines steps up and gets shot by Lascannon

"I've got th-"

BAM! Lascannon blasts straight through, on a roll of 1.

Ramshacklenator steps up to Shadowsword with Corrugated Iron Plate.

DONK!

A lovely roll of 6 and the big Shadowsword bounces its Titan Slaying Weapon off a roof from Africa.

Space Hobos...

... they're a failed Founding of the Space Vikings that never was.

It was a grim time on Fenris, suffering yet another Great Hunt that failed to recover any sign of Russ, with many Battle-Brothers fallen in battle...

The High Lords looked out amongst the expanse of the Imperium and said, "Lo, we can rebuild them. Stronger, faster... but we don't want to spend a lot of money."

Thus, the scum of the underhives of the Imperium were collected up by the Dirty Black Ships and began the rites of Initiation into the ranks of the Adeptus Astartes, using cast-off geneseed, used donations, sludge scraped off the sides of the petri dish, and copious amounts of Mad Dog 20/20, Night Train and Wild Irish Rose.

Most, of course, died in transit, having tried to make hooch with coolant collected from the enginarium, with almost all of the rest failing to survive the first implant surgery.

At last, though, a collection of the first Space Hobos received their Black Carapaces, having completed their Scout training (in reality, the Space Wolves, utterly repulsed by these degenerates, washed their hands of the project entirely and quit in disgust) and became full Battle Brothers, led by newly-appointed Chapter Master Cletus, the Slack-Jawed and Librarian A Pimp Called Slickback (calling him Slickback is heresy, it's "Librarian A Pimp Called Slickback", it's like "A Tribe Called Quest", you gotta say the whole thing).

The Space Hobos then jumped into the Warp aboard their Battle Barge, the Chevy Impala, and vanished, never to be seen again.

The High Lords watched them go, saying unto themselves, "Well, there's twenty-three Throne Gelt we'll never see again."

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
