I made a couple of threads building up to the release of Battlefield, which comes out Thursday in Europe and Tuesday in the US. I made this thread so that, when it comes out, and before, we can sorta discuss the game (and it looks great). I recommend checking out the Youtube channel for BF3. So other than anything discussed before, any thoughts on BF3?

Gah just made my post and found this one. I will just add my comments and see if I can delete my thread.
I have it for PC and find it pretty amazing. Pretty, more tactical gameplay than BC2, absolutely chaotic at times in firefights.
The Canal one with the Amtrac is actually pretty fun. I only played for 30 minutes on rush mode on the Seine river map. Lots of little hidey holes in buildings and alternate routes to the MCOMs. Perfect for support to kill singles or doubles running to the objective.
It looks absolutely beautiful as well.

Let's not have any posts like this then and just pretend we did please. Ta.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.
If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Apparently, EA didn't prepare for this, and their servers were crashing...
I haven't had this problem and neither have my coworkers. You should check your router to make sure there aren't any port restrictions in place. Only problems I've had are laggy servers, and a few crashes to desktop, other than that it is pretty stable and a bunch of fun.
Haven't had any issues with the MP myself either, in fact its growing on me kind of fast. This is my third shooter on the PC( TF2 and Red Orchestra 2 being first and second) so I'm still getting used to some of the controls and I haven't even dared to try jets or helicopters yet(do not want to be that guy), but the tanks are fine for me(thank you World of Tanks and RO2) as well as the IFVs. I was playing a match last night on the Canal level I think(conquest, Train Yard and Dry Docks are points C and B respectively) as the Russians and managed to shoot down two minichoppers with the IFV and then proceeded to destroy any that spawned. Then my IFV got destroyed and I decided to use a tank... have you ever seen an inflatable raft getting blown up by a tank, its rather fun to see. I did feel like a jerk though because the match devolved into the entire Russian team owning all the CPs and camping the coast, bombarding the US spawn with both tanks and IFV fire. Even our chopper flew out there and actually went into the ship's bay where the US team spawns in their amphibious IFVs and boats... it was pretty bad.
It took the goodness of BFBC2 and combined it with everything from the golden age of BF (BF2 that is).
The game is freaking beautiful! My buddies were over yesterday, and said right at the beginning "I don't see how this is any better than the vids of MW3" then the carnage started and they were speechless. All of the details that went into this game shine. The flare when you step into the sun, the billowing smoke from downed vehicles, your cover getting blown to shreds when you get in deeper than you meant to.
It is nice that this game finally gives the teeth back to PC gaming.

I'm playing on 360, don't know what your playing on, but after about an hour of trying it finally connected.
It's not bad gameplay wise, but I (And, as Google seems to show, many others as well) have some major complaints related to the Singleplyer campaign. I -HATE- how you have to launch it from a webpage. That's a terrible idea. EA should fire the idiot that thought that up. The audio lag is just awful, and there are points where the sound effects or dialogue will play as early as 10 to 15 seconds before the actual cutscene animations. There's a major bug in Villa, pt2 as well, that prevents some players from completing the mission:
Spoiler:
When Captain Cole enters and demands that Dimi drop his weapon and lie on the ground, you don't regain control of your character until AFTER Cole shoots, and thus causes you to fail. I'm getting this bug, unfortunately. It's been like that 5 times now. Every time, the same moment you regain control is AFTER he shoots.
Honestly, if you haven't picked up BF3 yet, and you intend to play through the campaign first, wait. It's so broken and buggy that it's not worth $60.00 yet. EA is good about patching - they'll fix it, but they're also busy, and if the MP works fine, then they're going to throw anything SP related on the backburner for later. So if you're looking to get it to experience the SP campaign, don't. Not yet. Let them fix it first.

I was planning on getting BF3 for the PC, but between work and my thesis paper I completely missed its release date.
Apparently the only way to get all the guns would have been by pre-ordering and getting the 'Physical Warfare Pack;' otherwise you get less game for the same price and have to compete in MP with people who have access to exclusive (and likely far superior) weapons. Fun.
I'm going to swing by Best Buy tomorrow and see if they can hook me up with the pre-order bonus (sometimes they will, on the provision that you pre-order something else, ie. skyrim). Gamestop is much more consistent with that policy, but don't carry PC games (at least in my area) so it's up to Best Buy. If I can't get it, I'll pass on BF3 and wait 2 weeks for MW3.

Actually, I only had the game crash once in the beginning of the game and that was due to me not updating my graphics card. Other than that I had absolutely no problem, also I didn't experience a bug with Cole at all but I did note that if you try to aim he'll kill you so you have to just shoot without aiming, I guess that its more like one of the quick-time events.
Don't like the website launch that much either because it takes awhile for it to warm up and then longer to launch the game but its similar to steam start up wise in my opinion. I also had absolutely no issue with audio lag and I don't know what your system is like, but you may have to update something in order for it to run properly. If that doesn't work then you might have to uninstall and then reinstall the game.

You will get the physical warfare weapons for free after a month (I think there was an exact date) or so. The weapons that are exlusive are Back to Karkand weapons and EA gunclub gun.
Only gun that seems powerful is type 88. SVD is first battle rifle you get in the game and DOA is semi auto shotgun.
EDIT: I don't know how you get gunclub gun

It really brought back everything they took away from us during BFBC2 (which admittedly was a very good game too).
BF3 does a good job of doing a lot of small things visually and gameplay-wise that make it its own game while still staying very very true to the franchise.
If you liked BF2 or any of the others in the franchise you'll love this. And if you have the machine to run it to its full capacity (I bought my new computer just for this stupid game lol!) it will continue to stun you at every corner.

I think the dogfighting section was my favorite level. Got part 2 of the villa to work after 7 or 8 attempts - ridiculous, but whatever. I've finished the SP campaign. I have no need to replay that now.
Also, loved the Johnny Cash at the start. Had just enough class to not be -totally- cliché.
Yeah, it plays a lot like BF2. The support class gets a LMG and can set up a mortar, similar to BF2 where they could call in a strike. Engineers can get stingers which are like the laser designators recon used to have in BF2.
Game play is a lot like BF2 and you'll fit right in but there is one big change and that is the fact that you can spawn directly into a jet or helicopter in order to prevent spawn camping. There are instances where you actually base jump and when you do the character model looks like they're diving before pulling the chute.
The knife kills are cool, it takes two from the front but if you can get them from the back you do an assassination animation. For example if you find a sniper prone and stab him from behind your character actually grabs him from the shoulder, rolls him over, and stabs him in the chest. But it doesn't end there because if you're the one being stabbed your screen moves to reflect you being rolled over and then stabbed so you end up looking at the guy stabbing you. Its all very, very cool.

Did you just shoot instead of trying to aim? Not making fun of you or anything but I want to know if that was the trick. I know that the first time I didn't realize that I had been given back control so I just sat there like an idiot and got myself killed.
Oh, but there is one thing concerning the PC version of the game's multiplayer and that is the fact that you may need to bind a key to change seats in the vehicles. I started playing and got into an IFV and for the life of me couldn't switch to the gunner's position until I assigned a key to it. Choppers have a big learning curve but are somewhat easy to get into afterwards so long as you don't get an engine crippled and gravity takes over, yes vehicles can be disabled before being destroyed and sometimes its fun to watch a jet or helicopter just free fall with a guy in there. It sucks to be the guy in the chopper though.

Yea, I tried that after the first 2 failed attempts - first time I tried aiming, second time I tried lying down as ordered. Then the next 5 or so times I tried hipfiring. Just kept not working. My guess is that there's a quicktime icon that's supposed to be showing up, and someone just derped and forgot to add it in.
Hate f***ing quicktimes. So f***ing much. They also took a huge chunk of the enjoyment out of it for me.
Really I won't be truly happy until battlefield goes back to the great bot battles that it used to have, before it stupidly decided to self-appoint itself as the Modern Warfare killer. Even just making it possible to play an MP match against bots would be great. I don't mind true MP, but the problem is that I really don't give half the damn that most of the nerdraging 'tactical monkeys' that play MP do. Seriously. I don't care how much better your K/D ratio is. I don't care if charging a tank yelling "ALLAHU AKBAR" is going to kill me and cause me to lose points for my team. Etc...

Ah yes, tank charging. Too be honest though I haven't heard anybody yelling about individual acts of stupidity, then again I don't have voice chat on so I may be missing out on a lot. To add on to the previous statement I will have to admit that there seems to be one BMW every match who takes things too seriously.
Seriously, if I decide to take out a chopper by ramming it with my hornet I'm going to take out that chopper by ramming it with my hornet.
EDIT: It appears that the PS3 version gets the expansion a week earlier than 360 and PC. Don't really see the point to it though, now if the two consoles played against each other then it would give the PS3 side an advantage because they could get used to the maps first but they don't play against each other so I fail to see the reason behind it.

One issue though is that i cant get my Battle Feed to work. It keeps saying that my account has not been activated. I have an EA account which is active but i cant associate my xboxl ive persona with it (there doesn't seem to bea link anywhere on the website).
I had an online chat with customer services and they said that if i download and play any free EA demo that will kick statrt the acount.....didn't work.
Has anyone else had this problem and managed to resolve it?
I have also tried logging into battlelog.battlefield using my origin detaisl bt it wont work....but if i go to the origin site and use the exact same details, i can login no problem!
I wish I could have gotten this for PC but I had to settle on getting it for my PS3 since I don't have Windows 7...which really sucks cause BF games work so much better on PC and I'm not very good at online fps's with a gamepad(M&K is so much better for shooters)
That being said it is extremely fun, especially with a competent squad and team. I'll end up getting it for my PC once I finally upgrade to Windows 7, but if you have the choice get it for your PC

So far the only thing I don't like is that the Helicopter controls are not similar enough for me to pilot at the same level of AWESOME as in BF2

Yeah, I have yet to cap a base after jumping out of a helicopter and lacing the ground with C4... I do miss the civilian vehicles though because there was nothing like jumping out of a speeding car strapped with C4 just to blow it up when it rammed into the back of an Abrams.
