I had 2 games this weekend in which I used Lysander and he came through big time for me both games, even though the games were heavy loss and a draw. The first time I ran him with tac Terminators(1 Cyclone Missle Launcher) and the second time with assault Terminators(3 LC and 2 TH/SS). I felt the assault Termies performed with him better than the tac squad, but I mostly rolled bad on the Bolter Drill. Despite that, is it still best to run him with the rerolling storm bolters or put him with the assault Terminators to use him as the beatstick he is?

edit: cause I'm bad with abbreviations.

Try 10 Sterngaurd in a drop pod with him. They drop in, pick their ammo, and hit on 3+ with rerolls, plus get Lysandder in close quickly. Sure it will become a high priority target, but If you give the low priority Drop Pod a Locator beacon, then the rest of your Termies, Drop Pods and JP models can drop on in.

You can put him in a Terminator squad to both use his BD rule, and still both pack a punch and be able to take it. Alternatively, put him in a TH/SS termie squad, (which is REALLY scary) but then you cant use BD.

Full squads of Sternguard or Tactical Terminators are best, to get the most out of his bolter drill.

Which also works well as most normal Space Marine armies are not that aggressive, you have a late game beat stick too.

Or for real fun and games run lysander, vulcan, and 6 hammernators in a land raider crusader. Very expensive but ridiculously powerful and hard to kill.

He's fine on his own but probably Sternguard or vinially Terminators. He's tough as nails.

Problem with Lysander is you pay a premium for his Combat Tactics, but the problem is Marines are a shooty army and as such don't want to be stuck in combat.

Losing combat tactics isn't nice. He bolter tactics and cc skills mean some of his points will always be wasted. The bolter drill isn't that great anyway it adds a third more bolter hits to one squad.
So my answer is nothing.

Thanks for bouncing some ideas around dudes. I might have to try this Sternguard thing. I also have a Librarian in Terminator Armor I could pair him with.

That's something I've toyed around with in the past, Libby+Lysander+Sternguard

Libby uses GoI so it can move up to 24" via DS with squad and shoot stuff dead (hopefully)

However Libby+TA; Lysander; 8 Sternguard is still a gross unit

Nullzone + GoI (imo)

Can vanilla pods hold more than 10 models? My BA ones only hold 10.

The best you could do with drop pod lysander and sternguard is 8 sternguard and lysander in drop pod.

Staying on target.....

vanilla pods can hold 12 fellas, so you could have 10 sternies and Mr L

however I have never seen anywhere that says models in termie armour can use a drop pod (other than SW's), can anyone point me in the right direction in the rules?

Funny enough, the Vanilla Land Raider also has more transprot than the BA one.It can carry 12, while BA can take 10, IIRC. I also think this is the sam efor the SW. but am not sure.

If you want to get stupid silly with points, you put 9 Sternguard, Pedro, and Lysander in a pod together.

Now, the Sternguard are scoring, have BD, are Stubborn, and have 3 attacks..plus you have Lysander and Pedro ther for CC as well. It will be the highest priority target on the table, and expensive as all get out, but man will it put a scare into your oppponent and be fun as well

Just to put this in context. You could have 15 sternguard two drop pods, this would cost less and would have more hits against the enemy.

I have done this, its fun, its competitive too if you're running a Pedro Drop List, Lysander peels off later and goes hunting big slow things while the unit wails on things, give it combi weapons and the sarge a Powerfist too though.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

Face that horror with my Daemonettes. Threw 40 models into that mess just to tar pit it.

Since when do vehicles list what can go in them? It is the other way around; vehicles that cannot take Termies say so.

Bush? No, Eldar Ranger

Procrastinating.

Instead of his best squad to go with, the best units to have in a list with him are the same with any other melee beatstick, have transports/drop pods to get him where he wants to go, and have units to keep tarpits/dangerous units out of his way.

This is correct. Terminator Armour says that wearers may not enter Rhinos or Razorbacks, and this is restated under Rhinos' and Razors' entry, (and can't be in LSS becuase they can only carry scout armour). Terminators can still go in Stromravens, Land Raiders, Drop Pods, or whatever else, as long as it isn't a Rhino variant.

One thing to remember is Lysander's Bolter Drill also allows you to reroll Get's Hot rolls if they occur on a bolter, hint hint, vengeance rounds for Sternguard
