I took on a dragon prince army last night, it was pretty ugly; for the elves that is. My ogres are still roasting those horses.
Slaughtermaster: Level 4 (ogre lore), Tricksters helm, crown of command, iron fist
Bruiser: BSB, heavy armor, iron fist, Sword of Striking
Butcher: Level 1, hell heart, great weapon (lore of beast, takes signature spell if I don't get good buffs on the SM)
7 Iron Guts, Full Command
11 Ogres, Iron Fists, full command
3x10 gnoblars
1 Sabretusk
8 Leadbelchers, musician
7 Leadbelchers, musician
2x Iron Blasters
Slaughtermaster leads the unit of 7 leadbelchers, butcher in the ogre bus (3 wide 4 deep), and BSB in the Ironguts (4 wide 2 deep).
Iron guts deploy behind the two units of leads, with the ogre bus holding a flank.
Gnoblars deploy 2 wide and 5 deep to keep more units in the range of the general and BSB.
Gnoblars and cat just run forward and disrupt the advance; cat will sweep into the backfield if ignored/warmachines to hit.
15D6 of S4 shooting is pretty brutal, but with the buffs in the magic phase, the Lead Belchers fight pretty well too.
Between cannons and leads, they put a serious dent in the enemy before melee starts. With 4 units to disrupt the advance, I've got a good shot at 3 turns of shooting before the eventual melee.
Against another ogre, I shot to death both units of mournfangs before combat (1 shot at long, one at short, + cannons).
I like mournfangs, but they seem like cannon bait to me. While 6 mournfangs vs 1000 points of shooting isn't a fair match up, that's really the advantage of ogre cannons. You can focus fire to create those unfair match ups, and then still have a lot of S4 T4 A3 guys left over.

Good idea. I would swap sword of striking for dragon helm (for bsb) and dragon bane gem for slaughter master.
Or maybe toss a cheap magic weapon (5point flavor) on both the bsb and slaughtermaster. I'll have to see how much wraith heroes have caught on back home.

as you are using your gnoblars as charge trump, throwing a trapper in them for the DT tests might be a good idea, mathhammer wise any unit of a medium or larger size will lose enough models to the DT test to make it worth while.

Depends on the math. Typically, it's 6+ cav, or something like 30-35 cheap infantry to kill ~25 points worth. But you don't get VP for killing 25 points.
What I found was it's way more useful to have more speed bumps (2x25) rather than one with trappers (50pts).
With 25 points a shot and no panic, I am going to try gnoblar invasion some time; 10 to 15 units of 10 gnoblars; maybe all with trappers.

Why do you deploy the ironguts behind the leadbelchers (rather than next to them, or even in front, leaving a gap to shoot through)? It seems like you'd get jammed up...
Mournfangs took my lunch money, but it looks like you have an army that can handle them quite well.

Really like the list.
Why not take 2 more sabretusks for the drops and extra redirectors? Single model, M8 swiftstride, with the stats of an ogre are just too helpful. Seems worth 42 points for another round of shooting.
You seem to have excessive buffing for a primarily shooting army. With the butcher + SM combo why not go heavens on the SM? Or like tmarichards mentioned, swap the butcher for firebelly. Either, I think, works better with your list.

The problem with saber tusks in panic, I run them up flanks to keep them 6"+ away from all other units at all times. What would you drop to get 42 points?
Why the buffs? Because 24 S4 attacks is good; but 24 S5 attacks is better. Leadbelchers, or any monstrous unit, goes from good to down right scary with a +1 S.
The butcher is a back up, just in case the slaughter master doesn't get a good mix of spells. My only good buff might be the butcher.
I love firebellys, but they seem better suited to a melee list; or by taking multiples in a shooting list.
I run the iron guts behind the belchers for a few reasons. The foot print of the army is so wide, it's the only way to keep it all near the general and BSB. It also gives me a very real option to flee a charge, and have the lead belchers fall back through iron guts; letting an enemy come up short, and letting ironguts make the charge (while lead belchers rally).
My general plan is 2 turns of shooting, followed by 2 turns of melee, then 2 turns of moping up. Iron guts are the mop up crew, and give me a unit to cover either flank should things go poorly.
If everyone was shoulder to shoulder on the battle line, I wouldn't have reserves, and fleeing a charge would really open up a flank.

Got a new list up and ready to play test vs your Matt. Enjoyed the game the other day and saw a few things.
Thanks and drop me a line when you have time for another late night game.
