Hey guys, I know some of you, thought I am relatively new to the forums. In any case. We are making a large effort to expand the Games Workshop events at Templecon this year. So I've got a lot of details for you.

The overall setup/awards for Fantasy and 40k will be the same, so I will lay out specific restrictions/rules for each event, after the common section.

Both events have a 50 player cap currently, (though if there is a lot of demand we can expand that number).

Both Fantasy and 40k are part of the GW tournament circuit and the top players from each will get tickets to Throne of Skulls 2012.

Check out Warmachine/Hordes events/schedule Here

Schedule 40K:
Saturday Feb, 4th: 8-9 registration/table assignments.
9-11:30, RND 1.
11:30-12:30 Lunch
12:30 - 3pm, RND 2
3-3:30, Break
3:30-6, RND 3

Sun Feb, 5th: 8:30-9 checkin/ table assignments.
9-11:30 RND 4.
11:30-12:30, Lunch
12:30 - 3pm RND 5.
3-3:30 clean up

Schedule Fantasy:
Saturday Feb, 4th: 8-9:15 registration/table assignments.
9:15-11:45, RND 1.
11:45-12:45 Lunch
12:45 - 3:15, RND 2

12:45 - 3:15 RND 5.
3:15-3:45 clean up
4-4:15 Awards.

MAX of 100 Battle Points throughout the tournament (20 each round), both game systems.

Sportsmanship(40k + Fantasy):
Everyone starts out with 20/30 possible points for sportsmanship. At the end of every game, you will score your opponent on a pass/fail system.
Ask yourself the following:

"Did my opponent's attitude and/or behavior make the game an UNpleasant experience, overall?"
Note to the player: Please be sure that your answer is based on your opponent's behavior as a person, not on their army, and certainly not on who won or lost. Thank you!

IF you would answer the above question with a "YES" Then your opponent failed.
Each failure will be handles as follows:
1 failure = -2points
2 failures = -5 points
3 failures = -10 points
4 failures = -20 points and DQ'd from winning any awards
5 failures = DQ and not allowed to return.

Note: All "Bad game" votes will need to be explained to the TO. Just to ensure that it was legitimately earned.

At the end of the Event, you will fill in your favorite opponent from the event. Each Favorite opponent vote gets you 2 points added to your sports score.

Painting:

Painting will be based on a checklist which will be worth 30 points. I will do by best to have a rough outline for the checklist up shortly.

End result:

Battle: 100 points
Sports: 30 points
Painting: 30 points
Total: 160 points

Awards:
Best Overall: will go to the player with the highest total score. Tie Breaker will be Battle Points.
Best General: will go to the player with the highest Battle point total. Tie Breaker will be sportsmanship.
Best Sport: will go to the player with the highest Sportsmanship score. Tie Breaker will Battle points.
Player's Choice: will go to the player with the most votes for "Favorite Army" by all participants. Tie breaker will be painting score.
Runner up: will be awarded to the player who played on the highest ranked table in round 5 who did not receive a different award (winner first).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
40k restrictions:
2000 points.
Standard force org.
All forces must use their most recent codex, including WD replacements.
Fully Painted Armies are required! This means all models must be painted to a three color minimum.
All games will follow the format below.
Main objective: 8pts for win, 0pts for loss. 4 points each if the objective is a draw.
Secondary objective: 4pts for win, 0pts for loss. 2 points each if the objective is a draw.
Victory points: (8 points)
Calculate the victory point difference between the players and consult the table below:
VP dif ---- Winner -- Loser
0-300 ------- 4 --------- 4
301-600 ----- 5 --------- 3
601-900 ----- 6 --------- 2
901-1200 ---- 7 --------- 1
I'm a bit confused with the 40k side, does that mean that all missions are VP, or is that just letting us know how VP is scored, and there will be other objectives for games (like objectives, kp, etc.)
Looks like every mission will have a primary goal worth 8pts (or 4pts each if the players Draw on it), a secondary goal worth 4pts (or 2pts each if you Draw on it), and then VP differential for up to 8 more points. So in each game you can score up to 12 battle points on the mission objectives, and 8 more on victory points.
It's an interesting system. Definitely rewards crushing victories. I'll definitely play in this if the team event isn't being held again this year (I think the Cold Steel Mercs will want to defend our title).
Yes, Mannahnin has is right on. Also, basically using his Sportsmanship system (which is already getting good feedback)
I do not believe there is a team tournament in the work (Though there is doubles on Friday).
BUT, if we get a good enough turnout this year, the Team event will return in 2013, and Cold Steel Mercs would certainly be the defending champions!
I'm Grant, the Convention Director for TempleCon and co-owner of The Temple Games in Pawtucket, RI. I wanted to drop in and let you guys personally know that 40k (as well as Fantasy) is a huge priority for us this year. Seeing it's significant growth last year at the convention was something we have been working hard to achieve for years, and the amount of effort Keith and a number of other tournament organizers have put into these events is staggering.
We had a ton of awesome feedback after the events at 2011, and we decided that it was well in order to increase the amount of space for GW significantly. This year the 40k and Fantasy will be going on in the Grand Ballroom of the venue, which is absolutely huge, and this increase in space will be coming with a massive upgrade on the terrain as well. We're also working on large scenario tables for free play during the weekend, and a rather epic 40k diorama featuring a number of my painted models near registration.
Pre-registration is highly recommended, as we are mailing out all badges to pre-registered attendees this year before the convention. This means you can walk right into the con during the weekend without any wait in line. Individual event registration and a full event listing will begin to go live in the next couple of weeks as events continue to come in, and I'll post here immediately when you can register your spot for the GW stuff.
As for other things going on, TempleCon is a very diverse event as anyone who has ever attended in the past knows, and that won't be any different this year. Expect live music and performances, scotch/wine/beer tastings and classes, panels, industry guests of honor, a ridiculous number of vendors (including The War Store), huge parties, game demos, tournaments and a hell of a lot more going on 24 hours a day for an entire weekend. All of this is wrapped in the usual chill atmosphere that can only be found at TempleCon, and add to that our retro-futurism theme focus for this year, which is all things post-apocalyptic!
You also want to get painting, as we recently confirmed that Cool Mini Or Not will be in attendance, and TempleCon will be the host of a Crystal Brush Qualifier!
And yes, Warmachine and Hordes players of all skill levels should take note that TempleCon is the largest event in the world for competitive and casual Privateer Press gaming. If you play both 40k and WM/HORDES (as I do), you should have no problem dividing your time between them, as they will be next door to each-other for the first time in the history of the event.
Hit the website at http://www.templecon.org/ or our Facebook for all of the latest news. See you in February.
Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. Yes, There will be a charity event Friday Afternoon/Evening. It will be a doubles event (limit 50 teams). I will post rules for this shortly. The Ocean State Dice Devils will once again be running the show, as they did a great job with it last year. I am just trying to handle the high level organizing.
Hey guys,
I slipped into Templecon last year just for the 3 game 40k tournament, and was amazed to see so much vibrant excitement and life! This is not just another 40k con. The costumed party goers, the vendors, the events, the fun! There was literally gamers playing games every where. Even in the elevator! Templecon is now on my yearly event schedule, and to hear that they are working to increase the size of GW events makes me even happier.
Give it a go!
Team Bastard! Oh you will see us. I just bought my ticket and reserved the hotel. Jim is going to right away, and so if Fritz. This time expect to see some jacked out cheese for the trios to match up with yours!
Sadly we won't have time to complete the team army Jim, myself and Dan from Nova (The sewer rat guard nova best army finalist) are working on. But no doubt fun will be had by all.
I strongly suggest if you guys are in the area that you get to Templecon.
Looking forward to having beers Keith!
Do all tournies have such ridiculous restrictions on list building?
The fantasy restrictions are laughable as the game is not nearly that imbalanced.
You know, if you want to engage in a discussion about the army restrictions, it might help to do it a bit more constructively. If it were my event, I'd at least be tempted to just write your post off as trolling.
Large events for WHFB increasingly have significant restrictions in army construction. Every tournament player I know (in the US and abroad) has found that 8th edition significantly reduces the balance and tactical dimensions of the game, despite being a fun beer & pretzles edition.
Good events do have these or similar restrictions.
These restrictions are based on the ETC restrictions Which are played and tested for months ahead of time. I got some feedback regarding how the event went this year and slightly tweaked a few things.
What exact restrictions are you taking issue with? Or are you just an "anti comp/restriction" person?
If you feel that some of the restrictions are imbalanced or not correct, please state that, I am more than willing to discuss or re-evaluate specific rules.
IF you feel restrictions are not correct at all, this Fantasy event may not be for you.
I'm fine with comp but it's all the army specific restrictions I'm not a fan of. Every deathstar and nasty trick in the game has some way of being dealt with, and to deny people those tricks, should they decide to use them, is just watering down the tactical choices that need to be made.
I don't play in tournies, so this is the first I've seen on restrictions for 8th edition. Just not my cup of tea, no need to change anything on your end just because of me. cheers and hope your event goes well.
Yes they do, and you know what's great about having over 100+ indy GT's is that you can find the event that fits your liking. Please stop trying too sour Keiths cornflakes as my hats off to him for doing this. He was at my GT this year and is a stand up guy. Organizing an event is not easy a lot goes into it (no matter if it's 20 people or 100). If you are not going to the event, which by your own statement you won't be, then please stop trolling it and leave the thread alone.
There is no additional cost for any event. It is just the cost for Templecon itself.
Friday is doubles, and is included in that as well. I will be posting doubles rules for both 40k and Fantasy in the next Day or two.
Thanks for the interest.
