First off, let me establish some background for the thread.

I strongly dislike the model for the Brotherhood Champion. The sword is far too short, and the design is horendous.

I have always loved ther heroic pose of the Emperor's Chamion.
I have lots of Spare Stormbolters from various vehicles.



Now, what I plan to do is paint the Champ as a GK, and convert him to have a wristmounted Stormbolter. Would you think people will accept this?

jy2 uses an Emperors Champion as Crowe and it works a treat.

You can pretty much hack and convert as long as it gets the point across.

IE: Ghazakul Thraka shouldn't be an Eldar Priest or something...

I use one as it. Painted it white, added a Storm Bolter, a banner-crest thingy from the GKT box and those little dangly pouches/trinkets they have on their belts. Looks pretty good if I may say so.

I've had one as a Grey Knight since the old book.

The current "Brotherhood Champion" model is actually the old Justicar model. everyone who played the old Daemonhunters probably has 3-4 of these guys as you could buy them seperate and they came in the PAGK box.

I think it sounds good, except that the storm bolter from the vehicle upgrade sprue would be way too big for him.

If you have included even one special weapon into a squad of either Terminators or power armored GKs you should have a leftover stormbolter somewhere.

I currently have niether. However, even though I am getting paladins this week, the will all have SB becuase I will needf to use a squad of 3 and 2.

The stormbolter from the Rhino will work fine. A BT player I met 2 days ago had one, and someone else had a Rhino. I was able to test. It should work fine.

I use an Emperor Champion as my Brotherhood Champion, the finecast version is great cause you are able to cut the arm off and swap it over easily for a plastic one from the GK sprue.
Here's mine on Bolter and Chainsword:

The general impression I wanted to create was that of swordsman challenging an opponent to a duel.

I added an Iron Halo from a Blood Angels backpack, cut off his sword and hand to switch it with a "finger out-stretched hand"; his left hand uses a Nemesis Falchion blade and a Nemesis Sword left hand.

I purposefully left out his stormbolter as I felt it looked too cumbersome and left his holstered pistol instead.

I also really like the Black Sword. i want the Brotherhood's Annointed Blade to be ornate, and different to other NFWs.

As for the Black Sword, I changed it because it didn't match the pose since it is absolutely HUGE (as with any weapon for a heroic 28mm model).
I of course have to agree, his weapon looks really great, I'm keeping it for a HQ in Terminator Armor; I'm thinking of swapping it with the basic NF Sword of my Draigo conversion.

On a side note, on the left shoulder-pad of a space marine your normally find the chapter's insignia; I made a green-stuff mold out of a spare shoulder-pad I have but the cast horribly failed; any ideas on that part aside from painting it?

M'Kachen, I'm just dropping in to say, that pose is amazing. Well done.

I've always considered getting an Emperor's Champion for my Crimson Fists, as they do occasionally use one.

you can get some from the Stormraven kit. If you ever get one, or you have a friend who has spares of this, try to get one. It may be too big, but try heating it and bending it around the pad.

If that doesn't work, see if you can find one in a another box set for GK, or get Etched Brass from FW if you absolutely must.

Deadshot, thanks for the advice, I'll look into it; although I think the easiest solution would be to paint it, his shoulder pad is quite large so it shouldn't be a problem!

Well, I recently got GK Terminators, and built one guy with a Psycannon so I have a stormbolter left over. I almost have enough for an Emperor's Champion, but it wil be a couple of weeks yet because I need more enchanted blue paint.

On a slightly related note, was anyone else pissed off when they realized that Stern was pretty much crap in the new 'Dex?

I never saw his old rules so no.

It's not that his old rules were amazing (they were decent though), it's just that they took the one named character we had and made him worse.

But in return gave Draigo and Draigowimng, Crowe and Purifier spam, Inquisitor Kamazoaish guy, Inquisitor Coteaz and Henchspam, and Grand Master Mordark, as well as the " I-don't-care-that-my-head-is-now-mounted-on-the-spick-of-a-raider-I-just-stand-back-up" Justicar Thawn.

Coteaz was around before as well, but yeah. It just sucks that the ONE Grey Knight Character that wasn't invented for 5th had to be mediocre at best. If he had just had Grand Strategy he'd actually be decent. Considering he's refused promotion to Grand Master, there'd some fluff behind such a ruling as well...
