I played an organised Halloween game today, called Day of the Dead. Each of the 4 corners of a 4X4 board cobntains a ruin roughly 6"X6". Each of these ruins contains one 5 man squad, legal for in game use, and no HQ units. These units may not leave the building, else they are destrioyerd by the corrusiating energies of Chaos.

mark out an area ^" of the centre of the Board. This is the graveyard. Art the start of the game, place D6+2 Units of 10-30 zombies in this area. These zombies have no wargear, and the following profile.

WS 2
BS 0
Str 3
T 3
W 1
Int 2
Attacks 2
Ld 2
Sv-

Special rules
Fearless
FNP
SNP

In the very centre of the board, place the "Zombie Master" in the centree of the board. he counts a the Nightbringwer for all intents and puroposes( we actually used Crons, with him), and uses his profile and special rules.

Objective
Survive as long as possible. You can not survive indefinitly. Last man Standing.

Mission Rules

There can be no reserves, under any circumstances.

"There's just no end!"
Any Zombie model that is killed take a WBB roll(see codex Necrons[The current one, not the new one]) Any unit, other than the Master, that is completely wiped out immediately redeploys in the graveyard in the start of the next Zombie turn.

Graveyard

Zombie models in the graveyard may always take WBB and FNP, have a 5++, and lose SNP.

Have a go and tell me what you think. This was designed by the staff of GW Belfast, with alterations( the zombies are changed, whereas they used to be Necron Warriors, Immortals, and Destroyers, and there used to be Plaguebeares and Flamers of Tzeentch dropping in).

edited the typos and zombie summoning rolls.

I played a similar version at GW bedford, but each player controls one guy, who counts how many kills he gets, and after a specific number, gains more wargear (starts off as typical guardsman with CCW)
The zombies spawn in with D6 units consisting of D6 zombies which DS in, and there are no deployment rules for the players.

We actually played a version a lot harder, because we were fighting Necrons, and they had guns. Not to mention players could shoot each other. And there was Destroyers, Immortals, Plaguebearers, and Flamers, all of which respawn.

we used the warhammer tomb kings minus the weapons, combined with the zombie-like vampire count unit (IIRC)
After around 8 games of the version I posted, the furthest anyone got was to turn 14.

This sounds like an absolute blast!! Anybody run sternguard? I'd imagine they're probably one of the best possible options with ideal shooting and multiple attacks in CC.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Shooting options are better. You can't leave the building, so having ultra fast units.

And when I played this, against the old Necrons, I took Sternsies.

I took down 5 warriors with a Plas Cannon, another one with a HB and then 3 more with Hellfire. 1 stood back up. Then every model on the board shot at me. All but Sgt Wolverine( he had a LC), went down. Then a unit of 10 Plaguers drop in, I slay one with Hellfire. they assault, and I kill 2, and another with No Retreat!.

Then another 10 drop in and I lose. But yeah, sterns would be good here. Just look like plain old Tacs, but are far more deadly. someone took Long fangs. Dead within a turn, mostly from Plasma cannons over heating.

Yep, they won the Day Of the Dead against Crons. 8 rounds. Bloody hell. They just would not die. In the end the Nightbringer had to tear them apart with his Scythe, and even then lost 4 wounds.

I'd love to see someone like yarrick or lysander doing it. They won't break any records or anything, but it'll be epic seeing them wade through a horde or 'crons.

Well, I tested out these moded rules from with the Zombies.

Contestants were a unit of 5 Ogryns. They last 12 rounds.

5 Sternguard with Combi Plasmas. 9 rounds. Most died to gets hot when Plasma the Zombie Master/Nightbringer.

5 Man Long Fangs with 5 ML. 14 rounds. They shot down the Nightbringer first, then forgot about the split fire and got wiped by the innumerable Zombies.

I know thuis wasn't allowed, but screw it.

Nightbringer

23 rounds. 127 Zombies killed. He just waited till the Zombie Nightbringer was dead, Then took out the Ogryns. ASternguard and Long Fangs already dead. Zombies couldn't hurt him. After 18 rounds we decided the Master comes back

Yeah, I think to improve this ruleset, I think zombies should automatically wound on a six to wound, regardless of toughness, in case of Wraithlords.

I know that someone used Nightbringer, but that was just for fun. the actual rules sate that it must be a 5 man squad. So no Wraithlords Talos, or C'tan Shards that Zombies can't hurt. Easy enough for MEQ, but Nids will need Warriors/Shrikes or Genestealers, but Warriors better.

Daemons will struggle, except Tzeentchians, because this mission favours shooty armies.

Squad of 5 Grotesques with a Liquifier Gun and a Aberration with Scissorhand would be fun

I mean sure they have a 1 in 6 chance of buggering off each round, but it'd be amusing.

More realisticly though a squad of Trueborn with say... a Dracon with agoniser and blast pistol, 2 trueborn with cannons and 2 with shredders.
