If I have a vindicare on the field, and a stormraven and pallies in reserve, and he is killed do I lose?

No, you still roll for reserves in the latter turns.

You only lose if for some reason none of your models can arrive on the battlefield, such as your entire deployment zone is full of, say, ork boyz, to the point you can't come on the field without moving withing 1" of an enemy model/unit.

You can play without anything on the field. It's called playing a reserve army.

There is no provision in the rules that lets the game end before turn 5, 6, or 7 (depending on the game end rolls).

If you have nothing on the table, but still have units in reserves, you still have a chance to bring them in until the dice, or turn 7 officially ends the game.

And even then, come turn 5, reserves come in automatically.

It is possible to have stuff bounced back into reserves due to mishaps or other shennanigans turn 5 and later.

Thansk to everyone. We eventually got ovwer it, though I lost, it was a close game.

I was playing my friend and the problem arose because he said

" You do know that if I kill that vindicare you lose coause you have nothing on the board."

After a haklf hour debate, in which 2 staff members argued against me, I finally won the debate, and even then he didn't kill it untill turn 2.

I lost, but it weas so close.

Deadshot; for future referrence, when someone makes this claim, calmly take out your BRB; and flip to the wipeout! rule on page 90; hand them the book, and let them read the rule for themselves.

If they try to say; "yeah, see I am right", re-read to them the following portion: "If at the end of any standard mission"

Wipeout! does not come into effect until the mission is over(as said earlier; after turn 5, 6, or 7 depending on the dice).

An opponent can concede the game at any point, and there is also little point in rolling for turns 6 and 7 if there is no part of the enemy army left (so no reserves left either etc.).

Sometimes it's best to use common sense.

In this sort of situation, asking them to show you the rule in question should resolve the issue more quickly, since no such rule exists.

Alkl of which was done. I askled him to show me the rule. He looked at the wipeout rule and said that if you have nothing left on the board you lose. Fair enough when you have nothin in reserve, but I still had living stuff, so I was right.

The reason I posted here was so I had written evidence, from reliable people, to show.


Some, including guys there, would say I was making a mountain out of a molehill.

Fact is, I'm not WAAC, I am just not prepared to lose, when I wasright.

That should have been the end of the discussion right there, since the Wipeout rule states that 'If at the end of any standard mission your enemy has no units left on the table you win.

you should have pointed to the 'at the end of any standard mission' part and as him if the mission has ended on turn one. then if he said yes, ask him to show you the rule where the mission ends if you have nothing on the board.

Whi9ch is what happened. He was stubborn. After some other people got ionvolved it turned my way.

I guess I am confused on how that turned into a half hour debate if it was as simple as him showing you the rule, and you asking him if the game had ended on turn one.

Here's another question. Do you think I should have just let it go and got on with the game?

I only would have made a big deal if it mattered. I would've said something like, "I'm pretty sure that's not correct, but we'll worry about it if you kill him."

If you think you can win by killing everything on the board you're likely to play differently to if you think that even if you kill the Vindicare the reserves will still arrive. Best to get something like that sorted out *before* it matters than deal with the ill will of "if I knew that I would have played differently."

If they hassle you about it again you might want to point out that if that is the case then any army that starts the game with everything in reserves loses automatically at the start of turn 1. Once you do watch how their songs change.

Oh, I did. Daemons I said. Half come in on turn 1 so if they are destroyed, does a daemons player lose. No, of coarse not.

He argued that Daemons have a special rule to keep them in reserve.

We then mentioned, all reserved Drop Pod armies, Deathwing, and all reservesd cause it suits you, such as with this. he replied you must have at least one model on the board at the start of the game.

Did you happen to ask exactly where it says that? I have never seen in all my years playing this game such a rule (been playing since 2nd edition but can't remember those rules as well as I used to)

Yes. Anything you can think of that should have been said, I said.

Like I said, I am not a WAAC guy, or a rules lawyer, but I would not be prepared to lose just like that, even when I was right.
