Working on a minidex for the farsight enclave; someone suggested I add an ability to one of the HQs -

Units this character has joined may make a single shot with a pistol/rapid fire weapon they are armed with in lieu of making CC attacks.
Broken? Remember, these are Tau we're talking about.

The fact that a pistol is a CCW represents shooting in CC anyway - it's not like you're pistol whipping with it.

Sorry, the suggestion being you use the profile of the weapon and the models BS instead of WS, resolving it as a shooting attack.

I think they should be able to purchase a Mine Layer Drone and have the ability to lay a 6" strip of mines within Coherency of the Fire Warrior unit if the unit has not moved during the movement phase. The mines must be laid parallel (or close to it) to the unit that is laying them. Each drone can only lay a single minefield per drone during the entire game. Multiple drones with Multiple strips must wait for their current mines to be removed from play before laying another minefield strip.

Tau Minefield: S: 5 AP: - 2D6 Special

- If an enemy unit moves through or ends their movement phase within an inch of the mine field the mines explode, inflicting 2D6 automatic hits on the enemy unit. This represents the enemy being unable to shield themselves from the blast in time. Resolve the wounds as a Shooting Attack.

Once the mines have exploded, remove the strip from play.

It's not perfect by any stretch, but I think it could lead to something worthwhile. Maybe a 20 Point Drone per Controller...

'We are the force which breaks the enemy's spear, shattering its haft with the teachings of Mont'ka!' - Commander WindSabre, Shas'O O'Shirada before the counter attack against the Raven Guard Space Marines on Tellidan II.

'The only perk from being a Captain is that I get my own private bathroom.'

I love this. Can we simplify it?

Defensive Mines - Optional wargear
A unit equipped with defensive mines may, once per battle upon being assaulted, inflict 2d6 S5 AP-- hits on the assaulting squad, A result of a 1 on either die indicates there was 'not enough time' to properly deploy the mines, resolve hits normally, but resolve an additional 1d6 S5 AP- hits against the defending squad as they were caught inside the blast. All hits are resolved before any CC attacks are resolved.

Good? The drawback justifies a relatively low point cost, I think.

these days you dont need downsides to things

essentially everything has become crazy strong

I would suggest doing s3 per model

the blast cant be too strong or else risk hurting themselves

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

Interesting, I especially like the mishap possibility.

Alright, if there are no more tweaks, I'm adding this cool piece of wargear to my farsight enclave codex.
