I'll try this real guick then...
Would it be OK to make my Sternguard using Tac. Squad boxes, and give them the molded shoulder pads with the chapter symbol... none ot the Tac marines will have the chapter symbol on their shoulder... I'm thinking of saving all the purity seals for just a few marines, and giving the Sternguard nicer bases too...my regular Tac Squads are AOBR so the Sternguard will also be less static poses I'm hoping...
Thanks to any who reply.

Wondering Why the Emperor Left

I would recommend getting either deathwatch or umbro ferrox boltguns to make them stand out.

2500 points of Iron Hands!
5000 points of Skaven
2000 points of Daemons of Chaos

Adding to the Daemons and Iron Hands ATM!

You need to understand one thing about playing marines...

It doesn't matter AT ALL what models you use to represent something, as long as its a clear representation. For example, I have a blood angels army I'm building, where EVERYTHING is based on the assault marines kit, but with various arm / weapon / head swaps to differentiate between squads.

Even tac squads with a different paintjob would be fine by me.

Diff paintjobs is even well too. Make sure your opponent knows what what is

To answer your original question ( Yes, I know I'm late to the party ) I've had no complaints from opponents when using these :

"The Emperor Protects - And having a loaded Bolter never hurt either !" - Proteus and Pythor, Ultramarines, The Movie.

Nothing in life is so exhilirating as being shot at without result - Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)

If you are following the Codex Astartes, then they will stand out because they will have a differently coloured helmet; although I would recommend using some forge world boltguns maybe to add that little more variety.

So long as they have clearly different unit markings I wouldn't have a problem at all.
