I had this in my WIP thread but was recomended that i start a fresh thread for it so it actually gets replys.

Anyhooo a selection of pictures from when i started to now.

I did all the above in three days but i have till the 26th to finish.

Im esp looking for feed back on the larger cracking ontop of the dread i think it looks cartoony and i dont like it atm but i've still got alot more freehand to go up there plus oil and pigment weathering to do over the top of that.

No. It was suggested you post in Dakka P&M Blogs and get subscribers who are Intrested in your work to keep supporting you.

This is no more than spam. I wouldn't be suprised if this gets closed soon.

Wasnt that an entirely different topic? That was a colab of his various works, this is about a single dread thats he needs advice/ help with. This isnt a blog either.
The cracks looks a tad cartoony; if i were you i would take an exacto to it and make them look more believable. Sharpen up the edges of the cracks a bit and itll look alot more believable.
Other than that, fantastic job so far!

It had the same work in. Thats like me posting a picture of an Ork twice but under a different name. The same Ork, It's spam.

I suggest a Dakka blog to keep a big collaboration of his work in. He can ask questions there and here but the fact It's the same.model twice in the same forum Its just spam.

Im undecided what im doing with the power plant so far.

Most likely some form of greek pattern same with the top of the body once i cover up the cracks.

Ahh, it doesnt have to be painted ( but i'll wait till you paint it and take a pic )

the reason is, i think i cut off something i shouldn't have lol ... for mine >.<

how did you do the scales?

Really easy although i rushed them.

Do you know the theory behind painting chips on armour? If so you already know how its just bigger. Paint on the darker colour then on the lower side of that line or whichever is going to catch light paint the thinner line on.

I've started to blend mine in but didnt have the time to. Even start really but its probably only 30mins work.

Thanks! unfortunately thats what mine looks like too ( the tab where the tubes are attached to)

How about this then? Im doing a little blending between the upper cracks.

Just a greek pattern wouldn't of tied in that well.

Edit: forgot to add pic and you replyed while i was typing.

Yeah its easily done. Esp with how easy resin is to cut. When fine cast was launched i took a chunk out my thumb thinking resin would be tough.

Imo, looks much better. I like the ultra marine symbol you added in there.
Doing the other side too, or just that one?

Yeah the symbol will carry over.

With the blending waiting for it to dry then i'll touch up the whites.

While I enjoy how ambitious you are with the cracks/scale, it really doesnt suit to have it all over.

This is a Ven Dread, not an ork. It would be better maintained.

Although, the odd micro-scratch might prove enough for detailing flat surfaces I believe you have gone overboard.

I get your point it isn't ment to be a realistic crack that covers the body more symbolic. Im going to try getting "tumbus intus" on it somewhere (latin for the tomb within)

So much anger! I could care less if he posts twice, what did he ever do to you? Don't click on the thread if it bothers you so much, damn.

Looks very similar to winterdyne's dread, but it does look good.

It is indeed thought i linked him in at the start did on other forums. I liked the cracked idea on the legs and such on his didn't want to do the same up top but tbh that looks great too. Its actually my fave dread out there. I wanted to change it a bit but really nothing suits it any better than the way he did it.

Well spotted

And thanks i've only ever seen completed pics

Thanks, that's very helpful.

The pattern on top needs another coat. Remember to thin the paint. The blue on the back has splotches. Raised paint splotches.

The scales look fine.

just seen this post.

No it isn't tbh I dont really deam myself close to good enough to do commisions. It's just a model I really liked I also dont colllect an army just paint what takes my fancy. (great unclean one and carmine dragon are in the pipe line)

@ InquisitorVaron: Cheers I'm probably going to give the whole of the white parts of the free hand an extra coat. the gold I'm also going to try and brighten up a little it look bright in the pictures but really dull and flat in person now i've surrounded it a bit.

You'll find the freehand easier if you work with a light grey rather than white, then highlight the line again with white. I used Spacewolf Grey, which I also used for a lot of the edge highlights.

The WIP shots you were looking for are here:

http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/ultramarines2/ven_dread_wip1.jpg

through to

http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/ultramarines2/ven_dread_wip34.jpg

Just change the number for each step you want.

the man him self

your dread really is the best i've seen I wanted to only copy the cracks on the legs but as I said nothing else looks as good with them as the free hand you did on top.
and thanks.

You might want to learn some manners there, young one.

...

Very nice looking dread you have there, Stevey. Thanks for posting the thread here, as I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Congrats on getting the commission, but don't forget to keep us updated on this one.

I don't guarantee work to deadlines - it's a surefire way to have some muppet want to pay you less because you spent more time on his models. I do of course *try* to get things done in a sensible timeframe and to hit a target date if there is one - but it's a target, not a deadline. Ensure that both sides' expectations are clearly explained before taking on any job.
