BEGIN RANT!!! This is old news but really.......50 dollars for a tin,two brushes,a small 8 page booklet, and mixing medium??
What is going on this time? Mixing medium should NOT be a limited run item....why do you think the P3
one is so successful? because its 5 dollars....Ultra rare brushes? There are plenty of expensive high quality alternatives
from other companies such as the 11 dollar Army Painter detail brush.Maybe I am just crazy but I guess if you slap eavy' metal or citadel on something
it justifies a 60 percent price increase.next year they might even come out with the citadel airbrush for 450.00 usd END RANT

$50 for what is basically 2 brushes and a tin box is pretty funny I agree. Can get the equivalent at Walmart for like $12 I saw that on their site and just lol'd.

Yeah this is sorta a grab like their mega paint kit... I mean, when am I going to need 80% of the colours they have in there for any of my armies? Its WAY cheaper to buy the paints you need vs everything... least imho.... and i own 3 armies all differnet paint schemes

Oo Shiny, I want the tin ... However 50 bucks for essentially 2 brushes and the tin I'd like lol ...

NO thanks GW, also no thanks to your mega paint kit that sells for some reason.

Perhaps that's what the bottles are for; the fumes. Either that or the tears of shattered dreams are what the Eavy Metal team uses to thin their paints.

I hear the tin is forged using real chaos techniques and contains the souls of disgruntled employees.

nah that mixing medium probably contains the tears of a small african child thats why it costs like 20 dollars per pot ....

While you were obviously being facetious, that's pretty much exactly what this kit is being sold on. It's not being sold to those who are looking for value for money. It's being sold to those who buy stuff because it comes in a special tin, or has a special slip-cover, or comes in a limited edition colour, or whatever.

I've bought plenty of 'limited edition' products over the years that weren't seemingly worth the asking price, just because they were something that I thought was cool. Granted, this won't be one of them, but it's no sillier than some that I have bought.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually, I'll clarify that a little... At $50, it's expensive, but not inconceivable that someone would think it was worth it.

It's $83 here in Australia, though.

Yeah, that's not gonna happen.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Well say it is worth $35:

+ $10 for the tin and because you, presumably "know" you are getting something good.

+ $5 for feth-you because GW hates us apparently.

Anyway I don't buy my brushes from GW.

You at least save a few bucks with the paint set as opposed to buying everything separate. This seems extra ridiculous though.

I'm guessing you guys don't know and prefer to flame than check, Kolinsky sable brushes can go for over US$60 each, right?

(usually, I'm all for flaming GW but only when it's justified)

I don't buy sable.

If I was a professional artists, I might consider at a pinch if I had to for my profession to get that quality, or I was like, Golden Daemon quality painter and really serious about it, rather than a not so great painter of my li'l toy soldiers, buying brushes made from sable. Considering it's an animal and sable brushes are made from its fur.

Neither do I, but i find the idea of GW selling a same product for "cheaper" impossible :'P

Well how could I resist buying this when it's priced at £31? Rather easily, I should think. I wouldn't use GW brushes unless you paid me quite a bit too. Not that I'm good at painting or anything but I do find them horrible to use compared to kolinsky sable brushes.

On the subject of which, if you want to move on to using sable brushes you can pick them up for about £4/$6.50/AUD$6/NZD$9 (according to currency converters). Shipping might be expensive if you are on t'other side of the world, but it might be worth looking at buying sable brushes from UK webstores. In the time I get through one of my kolinsky sable brushes I'd estimate at having put 4 GW brushes in the bin at least - so I'm saving £10 there at least. Chap I know worked out he'd go through 2 GW brushes a night on average (he does a -lot- of painting) which would mean he'd spend £35 a week on GW brushes - his sable brushes last him months. They're grand to use.

The set is £31?
Well decent Kolinsky Sable brushes (Specifically W&N Series 7 which I suspect these are) go for £10 each roughly.
Say £3 each for the mediums, and we're on £26 already.
So about £5 for the tin and the booklet?
Seems about right.

Of course a frothing rant is so much more fun than research...

Good brushes are expensive, I have expensive KS brushes, but here's the thing, if you look after them, they last.
I have some KS brushes my grandfather left me, that he used to use for touching up negatives.
They're 70+ years old and still going strong.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I know Kolinsky sables cost. They always have.
Am considering buying some but as a vegetarian may look for a very high quality substitute brushes.
The brushes in the set presumably are not high quality but run of the mill GW hairy sticks.

imho GW are fair game on this one. They have set themselves up for much hilarilty.

You're essentially paying for the tin and the ability to say "you have it"

Getting mad at this is like getting mad at those over priced special edition deals for video games. You're paying a premium for something that doesn't cost them that much to make. You don't have to buy it, there is nothing in the world making you buy it, and complaining about it is just foolish.

Though people will keep complaining about it because that's what people do, they complain, and they do it alot, even if those they complain about it are far from the only ones doing such things as they are complaining about.

Umm....except that they're advertised as Kolinsky Sable brushes in the kit?

Sheesh, don't you guys even bother LOOKING at what you're complaining over?

Ive actually ordered the set.
As above, people need to read what is advertised.

The brushes alone run up the cost due to being decent.
compared to GW normal brushes, they are gods.

Im more than happy to pay these prices, since im infact paying no more for the items than i would if i had got them seperate from another source.
Granted the tin works out at £5 or so, but i can live with that.

Also, another note mentioned here: Mega paint set;
Ok, people bash it, yet you save a good amount on buying seperate.
Now, the price hike kicked in just after this on paints, yet the set didnt go up.
Thats even more of a save on the set.
I yet again got one for the saving, and would do again.

I'm more curious as to why they're complaining about a product that they never even have to think about buying.

It's different when you complain about the models, you have no choice but to buy those. But with this, you have many choices. Unless they start saying "You can't participate in this tournament unless you show your 'eavy metal tin" then complaining about this product is really just kinda pathetic.

Yup I looked
It said Eavy Metal Brush on the handle, not Kolinsky Sable

FYI I ain't complaining, just taking the piss.
There is a difference

You wanna be a fanboy and pay over the odds cos it has EM embossed on the lid is your look out. A fool and his money etc. No idea why you would want let alone need such a piece of kit.

Ditto to Namica. Not seen any evidence of people getting mad.
