On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Hey guys

I was thinking of picking up one of the Dungeon & Dragon boardgames that have been released, and was wondering if anyone had any experiences of them? Specifically, is there any real difference in model quality, component quality or game experience beyond the difference in setting and models you get in the box?

The games released so far (in chronological order) are Castle Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon, The Legend of Drizzt and Conquest of Nerath.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I have the first two, and both my gaming group and myself prefer Ravenloft over Wrath, as Wrath is much harder to win and the games take longer to play!

We do like a bit of dungeon crawling, but tbh you will find that your party will split up more often than not to try limit the damage caused by encounters/monsters etc.

In terms of quality, both have outstanding models for monsters although Ravenloft edges it for me, as some of the Wrath monsters have thin legs that can not support the weight of the mini correctly (Legion model) The hero minis are very poor in comparsion in both boxes, if you have your own versions, use them!

Wrath does allow you to create your own dungeons, and a campaign of sorts, but the character development is very poor and not what the gaming group were hoping.

All in all, Ravenloft was excellent, and we played it to death. I bought Wrath and we played a few times before jumping back into Ravenloft!

The newest one, Legend of Drizzit is the most balanced.

Castle Ravenloft was very very easy, so when they released the second game they wend the opposite way and made Wrath redicusly hard.

Both are quick fun dungeon crawls, the models aren't anything exciting though.

I prefer WoA to Ravenloft- it's more madcap with all the chains that can happen and you suddenly get mobbed by baddies, it's really fun to me.

Haven't played the newest one.

Nerath is a whole separate game type as well, so I wouldn't count that one in the discussion here.

I've played Ravenloft the most and find it to be a bit too easy, but the models are good. WoA has much more balanced rules and removed some of the silly bits from Ravenloft, but as mentioned it's a bit harder to win, but I like the challenge.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys!

I'm going to be playing some newbies with this game, who have had very little experience, so will probably go for the Ravenloft one!

Thanks again
