I am preparing to convert this AoBR SM Captain to Space Wolves Rune Priest. Need some feedback and help on the ideas for the conversion.
Here are the photos:

Main questions:
  • what should I do with the hair (facial hair is an obvious beard)?

  • should I convert the gun to a pistol or leave it?

  • any other clever ideas to enchance the model?

    This might help:

It's a chaplain made from an AoBR captain. And this is my rune priest built from standard SW pack components:

If you remove the eagle from behind his head & replace it w/ a converted shoulder pad to look like a psychic hood as you can see here:

The head isn't that hard to replace either, so if you just lop it off & use your choice of SW head it's easy as falling off a log. If you can sculpt well I'd make a pelt hanging over the cape & then paint the cape w/ like lightning bolts or somesuch. Kinda like the SW termie cape. The hands aren't hard to swap out either, though the bolter removal does require some precision cutting. Also, keep in mind just using a SW torso front that has a pelt to cover the groin like the loin cloth currently does, also pretty easy to do. And on a final note, SW can have purity seals too as they're still marines & do often serve alongside other marines & they may get issued purity seals by allied chaplains.

Seems like you could find some bits from friends or people you play with and it would be a lot easier than what your trying to do. Plus you would have an easier time adding and removing details. But if your doing it for the challenge, which is something I do all the time, I can respect that. As for advice I would say to add wolf bits to the gun if youre going to keep it and I've always been a fan of braided mustaches and beards. I've done it before with GS, I actually rolled it out into strings and actualy braided it and then sculpted the ends out to look like hair. I don't have any pics, wish I could show it off. Other than that it looks like you've got the rest figured out. It would also be cool to add a big scar across his eye with a little GS, make him look rough and wolf like!

Good start on a beard there. Can't quite tell for sure if you did or not, but you may wanna add more fluffiness to the cheeks kinda like chops y'know? And think about adding a mustache, but that's just a personal thing for me, beards w/out mustaches I FEEL look funny & almost glued on lol.

I want to second the mustache. You can't grow a beard that long and tangly without letting your mustache go as well.

the stache is done, it's drying right now, I wanted to do it in layers so to not ruin what was previously done.

facial hair is mostly done. hair on his head will be done after the miniature is assembled.

do you think that the staff is to big / out of proportion with the rest of the figure?

Yep. Most Staffs I see are around about the same height as the figure. What you have right there is the starts of a standard.

some reposing, but doesn't the staff held so low be hard to hold? wouldn't he hold it a tad higher to balance it easier?

The bottom of the staff could be resting on the ground. And the hair you have mocked up in the last picture, reminds of the girl on the Wendy's sign haha.

I have been a little busy lately, but here is a sketch for the rune staff.

I would be happy to hear some opinions.

    real size:

would be better, but for sure I am nowhere near the skill level in sculpting to achieve this (much much smaller):
