So, if you take this list:
HQ
Drago 275pts

Troop
Paladin squad, 1 model, 55pts each

So far 385pts

Heavy
Dreadnought w/lass-cannon
Dread-knight with gat, psy, and great sword
Land raider with psy upgrade

Fast
Storm raven w/plasma cannon, typhoon and hurricane bolters

Elite
Vindicator assassin

1500pts

It’s not full proof, but in a fixed competition where your army cant adapt to your opponent, this was awesome. So much hard hitting mobility, I out ran a Blood angels army and just dumped firepower.

But in an objective game...You can only hold one? Or up to 4 actually...still, not many good objective holders. The vindicare can be instant killed by a whole mess of things, and the paladin can be mobbed by men/shot down like a dog because he is all on his lonesome. The dread can be tarpitted pretty good by a mob of anything with good Ld. It just sounds like it would struggle at objectives.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Drago give you grand strategy, you can make the dreadnought or Knight take and hold points, or scoring units. As for the 2 terms and drago they go in the land raider and Storm Raven, vs an Ork army my Plasma cannon turned a Ld test every turn. The assassin yea can be killed quick, but the 3 first games he took out a Land raider, a whirlwind and Defilier on the first turn. The next 5 games he was either killed or I removed a HQ INV save making him an easy target. But he made his points up by making it one sided right off the bat, I mean its lucky dice rolls, but its one of thos its so stupid no one thought about it and didn’t plan for it.

The list is illegal. You only have a single Troops choice. This list is also extremely light on numbers. Any army that spams some serious firepower would just cripple this list (Necrons, IG and DE come to mind. Purifier GK lists would also work).

It has 2 troops, its 2 paladins squads, one squad is listed as 1-10 paladins, and with Drago paladins become troops choices. And yes any army prepped to attack this list would be a duck hunt with an AA12 and inf ammo. But in a comp where you submit your army prepped to face the unknown, and I get to kill just about every tank hunter model on the board with my assassin, and being tank heavy, this was awesome and was like fishing with nukes.

Aside from the fact that this list is illegal because it doesn't have 2 Troops its a pretty terrible list. You have 5 units of consequence which makes dealing with it pretty straightforward. The Vindicare dies from a Missile/Scatter Laser/Multilaser/S6+ Barrage turn 1 (so he maybe kills a vehicle if you get the first turn). The Storm Raven dies to Missiles/Autocannons the second it stops boosting around (which considering it has a gunboat loadout and you have nothing of consequence to go in it, it will if it wants to achieve anything) and still dies to melta units if they get close (which is definitely possible if you are moving slowly to shoot + you don't have the firepower to stop a mech rush). The Land Raider just gets ignored early by most armies, hanging back its a pretty meh fire support vehicle and people will just melta it when they get close enough. The Dread and the Dreadknight are both completely unsupported so can easily get tied up or isolated and crushed.

Basically there is no way you can get enough damage output from this list and you don't have reliable ways to grab objectives either (even allowing for Grand Strategy). You have 2 single model assault units, which will get torrented down in close, overrun with bodies (horde lists) or get their face beaten in by tough assault units like TH/SS Terminators. Then you have a grand total of 7 ranged anti tank shots (which will drop in number very quickly), by itself this is definitely on the low side to deal with large numbers of light vehicles, but you can also only reliably kill AV14 with the Vindi so struggle against heavy armour as well. Your ranged anti infantry firepower is even more limited and most of it is from the Storm Raven.

I'm also not sure how you were causing LD checks on Fearless Orks. Sorry to say this definitely doesn't count as a tournament/TAC list, it would get taken apart by almost any decent tournament list.

Yea before you say that look at your list. You have 1 listed, you need 2 troops. You can like it all you want, in a tourney it should get eaten up. The list has no focus and is kinda spread out across different approaches.

…a Storm Raven has a SR that drops the 2D6 vs armor with melta weapons. Also hammers are useless when you have to roll a 6+ just to hit if you even get close. Also the land raider has 2 twin-linked lass-cannons, that tank killers. Also the dreadnought would lay firepower, then in the next turn get picked up by the raven, run 24”, still fire the plasma cannon, gain a 4+ cover save from fire, then drop and dump more firepower, I’m saying this list is a fluke in any real game, but in 7 games I out smarted and crushed every player, who everyone planned to face more inf with a few elite and few tanks, I wiped them off the board. One army was Tau, Assassin killed the Ethereal and 2 fire warriors ran off the board. As for the assassin, the cover saves, with the inv save, and the FNP its hard to kill him. Most of the time the other player wasted a lot of fire power to kill him, in turn left me to fire 3 temp weapons and wipe out squads of space marines in each turn.

While I do not doubt that you have won games with this list, it seems far too fragile to do it consistently.

For a start, there are simply not enough models. 8 models in 1500 pts is ridiculous.

Any player with experience will be able to quickly prioritise his fire and take your army apart piece by piece. A guard army would be particularly effective.

I don't understand.

What kind of army can't take out a land raider, a storm raven, and a dreadnought?

If there's more than that to this army, I don't see it.

Yeah, I'll agree with the rest. This is a pretty weak list.

Two easily killed vehicles and a third I'll have no trouble melta-gunning to death by turn 2? With easily instant-deathed troops?

Seriously I could probably completely neutralize this list by the end of turn two and probably table the entire army by turn 3 or 4.

Bad, bad list.

Know how we all know that you played a terrible opponent in the one game you mentioned? He took an ethereal.

Now, a common Dark Eldar list has around what, 15-20 dark lances? That's the amount of anti-tank they're shooting at you. With IG, you're liable to be facing even more firepower. 1 Raider, 2 AV 12 vehicles, and a monstrous creature are not that hard to take down. You were playing weak opponents, who's armies were not designed for anti-vehicle work. Is your local meta mostly infantry? If so, a proper mech list is going to kick even more ass.

Agreed. At 1500 pts I will easily have over 100 models on the table, all able to break everything but that LR. Im sure that list has a few surprises in it an all, but I would just go and swarm your 8 models and there wouldnt be a whole lot you could do about it

thats all? at 1500 I should be fielding 140-160 guardsmen, and have a pretty good chance of blowing this entire army off the board (minus the LR) on the first turn.

Seriously. Heck, with lucky rolling I'd take out the LR too. Especially if it's an objective based game. I could take out those two Paladins with two blobs of Guardsmen without breaking a sweat. Sorry OP, this list is pants.

Well I hope everyone laughed at this, it is a stupid list, unless your vs someone who has like 2 AOBR sets then it would make since, however it worked and I took first place. Will never happen again, but it was funny. In the whole game I only ever lost the Assassin, lots of failed shots at the LR and SR and few wounds vs the Dread-Knight, but in all it was unfair.

Even on the objective games, I would take it with one paladin and guard it with the Storm Raven, the closer they got the more firepower I could turn out, I had one OBJ with a paladin and the SR, one OBJ with the LR and Drago and one paladin, another with the Dread-Knight, and if I rolled right a dreadnought and a assassin would cover a 4th. It really was said, I don’t think anyone read my intro under introductions, but yea there are not a lot of good players here.

Also we play on 8’ x 6’ tables, unless you have a weapon that fires 60” or more you cant hit anything on the first turn with the terrain. That’s how we roll. Makes the game a little longer.

Yea I was looking at a 1000pt list I wrote up when I played a game with my son a few weeks ago, and Im not going to lie, Id bet I could beat that list, with 500 less pts on the table. I had a dread and some kans, so I KNOW that LR wouldnt be a problem at all
