Subject: What to do when your army is completely invalidated
So I realize that the SoBwd codex has been out a little while, but I am returning to the game after a hiatus, so forgive the Slowpoke.
My Blood Angels got really good while I was away, I had to modify structure somewhat, but my flying vampires are scarier than ever. No Complaints there, except that BA is my secondary army, my main army was Witch Hunters, you see the issue yet?
My Inquisitor Lord+retinue+Landraider, my Vindicare, my inducted guard, It's Leman Russ and Chimeras, and My Cannoness's Jump Pack, are all gone. I generally have little problem with a new codex making certain options weak or overpriced, but I have a big problem with a list being made illegal, and hundreds of dollars and months of painting going out the window. I realize that several of these choices were sub-par (in 4e people made fun of my Vindicare), but they worked as a weird flavorful army, and they were MY 3000 pts of failure. I also realize that this new codex is likely only a band-aid, and I played BA under their band-aid codex and it was decent holdover until a full codex came out. But I've seen what's in the GK codex, and I am willing to bet that when a SoB codex comes out it will not feature inquisitors nor assassins, and inducted guard is also never coming back. So this leaves me with a small and bad IG army, a small and bad GK army (with no GK), and mess of Sisters that are just a pile of pewter failure. At least I can now field at least 500pts of any army of the imperium (other than certain marine chapters).
Don't get me wrong, the new sisters are better than ever (thank you cheap rhinos), and many unusable units took a level in bad@$$ (the sisters repentia just became the biggest car thieves in the galaxy), but they are missing sooo many units and options. I don't really know where to go from here. Any Help on what to build out of my sisters would be appreciated, keeping in mind I have no budget for new models, so there is only what is below to work with.
Spoiler:
40 bolter sisters
6 Flamer Sisters
5 Storm bolter Sisters
4 Melta Sisters
2 heavy bolter Sister
1 multimelta Sister
4 heavy Flamer Sister
1 Simulacrum Imperialis Sister
6 Sister Superior(plasmapistol CCW)
1 Sister Superior(bolter and auspex?)
2 Sister Superior(Boltpistol powersword)
10 Sisters repentia
1 Mistress
8 Bolt Pistol Seraphim
2 Handflamer Seraphim
3 Seraphim superior (plamapistol powersword)
1 Cannoness (jumppack {will likely remove} Powersword, inferno pistol, Fur Cape)
1 St. Celestine (damn did she get useful)
1 Uriah Jacobs (will buy soon)
1 priest (laspistol ccw)
1 priest (evicerator)
2 rhino (and I can grab my one for a total of 3)
1 Immolator (multimelta, though I think I can switch it if needed)
1 Exorcist
Also Since I have a bunch of guard models, I wondered if any one would be willing to help me hammer a guard army out of it.
Spoiler:
Mostly cadians and catachan, but several Steel legion, Mordian, valhallen, vostroyan, tallarn, tanith, and a couple of necromunda. I picked them because they looked cool, not because they fit any sort of theme. and the ones that are painted don't even have a common scheme, just whatever I wanted at that moment. Stormtroopers are painted as IQ stormtroopers
60 lasgun guardsmen (8 have vox casters, and I have about 4 additional unused ones I can glue on)
15 sergeants with LP and CCW 2 HB teams
2 LC teams
2 AC teams
1 RL team
8 Plasma rifle guardsmen
1 Melta guardsmen
10 grenade Launchers
5 flamers
2 Guardsmen with stormbolters (probably not useful)
16 hellgun stormtroopers
2 stormtroopers sergeants with hellpistol and CCW 4 Plasma Rifle stormtroopers
1 Melta stormtrooper
1 flamer stormtrooper
2 officers w/ Powerfist + laspistol
2 officers w/ bolt pistol + power sword
2 Officers w/ bolt pistol + CCW 1 Officer w/ Laspistol + power sword
1 Colonel Schaffer (plasma pistol, power sword)
1 commissar w/ boltpistol + ccw 1 sanctioned psyker with laspistol and that staff thing
1 leman russ
2 Chimera

Your leftover Guard could probably make two well-manned infantry platoons (5 man command squad and 2-5 10 man infantry squads) and two squads of Stormtroopers in Chimeras. You'd need to take a company command squad also, and could probably do with Schaeffer as your company commander. As for your Sisters, I dunno what to tell you. Personally, I'd be happy to play against the old codex in a friendly game, but that's just me.

Split up your armies, "count as", or sell them off. It sucks (I know from experience), but those are about the only options unless you play apocalypse or have friends who are fine with house rules.
i would say you have 2 armies, ye they are all small point ones and not in perfect setup.
You have over 100 guardsmen and with the chimeras and the leman russ that will actually make a mediocre guard army.
For your sisters the only thing i can say is , "hang in there " since there is at least a 15 months period before the real sisters codex.
And also the no-GKGK lists can work quite well up to 1000 points with coteaz and another beefed up inquisitor.

When life gives you lemons make a t-rex...
I'm not sure how that applies to this situation or how that saying works...
IMO Go guard. Even if they get nerfed you'll always have fun with that amount of firepower.

You have the trappings of a Guard and Henchmen heavy GK force. You will have to add here and there but its been a very long time since that force was usable (they stripped allies a bit ago on the website).
The sister force you have will win many games as well, adding rhinos will of course help but its still white hot. Find a way to acquire or proxy several penitent engines too, they work rather well.

I say keep everything. In the future I bet that you will regret it if you sell them, and you have the makings of 3 armies from that one force, 2 of which are high tier armies, and one that currently is not, but still cool.
So, like I said above, keep 'em.

Consider yourself lucky that you have some viable options with the forces you have.
Options that could include using the Sisters as Guard vets or Storm troopers.
At least you don't have S(redacted)ts
Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

I would also not sell a single thing, make a list that works with current codices, and then make a list with the older codices, and ask if its alright if you use the older ones,
and if people freak out and demand that you use the newer lists, they prob arent worth playing anyways

Squats can be used as other things as well....that logic doesn't work too well.
To name a few:
- count as Kroot (generic Tau mercs.)
- Ratlings
- slaves that have been thrown in with Grots
Hmm...
Sisters Filler Dex.. Check
IG Dex... Check
GK Dex... Check
Squat Dex....................................................?
Now which army is really invalidated? Just asking, not trying to hijack the thread. Squat players have had to make these kind of adjustments since third.

From what's there I reckon you can probably manage 1500-2000+ points of sisters fairly easily which is the standard game size range 80-90% of the time these days.

It would sell moar minis so I'd not be surprised. However it would be interesting to see how it works - min/max 1 manditory troop (5 IG vets?) and the OP heavy support (Leman Russ?) in most armies?

It'd likely be a second, limited force org (i.e 1 hq, 1-2 troops, 0-1 elites, 0-1 fast attack, 0-1 heavy support) that either takes up those spaces on yor standard chart (so if you fill the aux slots it would make the standard 1 hq, 2-4 troops, 0-2 elites, etc) or just be an entire second minichart on top, but all restricted by the points as standard.
The option I went for, which may not be popular, was a deliberate self-nerfing. I'm using the GK dex and my Sisters are acolytes with boltguns and carapace armour. I've yet to try them out, but from looks I'm quite pleased with the list. It was kind of liberating to take the nerfing of my Sisters into my own hands, so to speak. Likewise, it makes for an interesting, more unique army. Less like weak marines, more like tooled up Guard.
Trying them out on Monday (a little), I'm keen to see how they play.
