I'm not sure GW understands what a "sale" is. Their Black Friday would likely be "buy 1 get 1 at 10% markup".

I think the last time I recall GW having a sale was the 25th Anniversary. A bunch of stuff was cheap during that. Don't recall one since, though.

didn't they just do army bundles for that? so you still had to spend money to save any money.

Still, with the ability to get new GW stuff at 30% off any day of the year, I don't think any sale would be enough to get me to walk into a GW store.

Yeah they would have to do a 50% sale or something to interest most people, imho.

Over here, at least, they were selling individual boxes for less than retail. Only fantasy stuff, and only in store. They also gave out some freebies (a Empire figure and a Goblin and Dwarf, a badge...I think that was it) of which I got two because my son was with me.

Do they even still do grand opening sales? I remember about 10 years ago, new store grand openings would have pages of coupons, like 25% off, buy 2 get 1 free, etc. One of my friends use 2 buy 2 get 1 frees to get 6 boxes of Berzerkers when they were first released, and another got 3 of the original Eldar battleforces.

They would certainly have to do that for us. Even then we would still have the same prices as the rest of the world. Until then, I will never pay retail price.

Isn't that generally how sales work?

Buy this (spend money), get this much off (save money)?

You're wording comes across like you expect them to just give stuff away. And then people would still complain.

Bundles aren't really a "sale", they are merely repackaged models designed to get you to spend extra money for some small advantage. A sale is offering some % off the retail price of models across the board, or in a specific area.

Last time I saw a GW sale must of been over 15 years ago and they were clearing out the Tallarns at the time.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Last sale I recall was a damaged box 50% off at a GW back in 2004 I believe. The manager almost lost his job over that one as he evidently didn't have permission.

I think the closest i've seen to sales at my local GW is to turn up at the store at opening time, get a raffle ticket....

Might wanna brace yourself for this one...

GW doesnt know squat about sales. i remember going to gamesday years ago ad seeing tons of GW product on tables

for sale

at FULL PRICE

it baffled me to no end. any LGS has a discount system that outshines GW, and online makes paying full price for anything laughable.

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

It's one common form of sale, although simply lowering prices is probably more common. Bundled discounts are pretty common in nearly any field, due to lowered transactional costs.

You're wording comes across like you expect them to just give stuff away. And then people would still complain.

Well, in a large enough sample size, you can find somebody to complain about free steak and oral sex.

I'm still not sure I'd call bundles or bulk buys "sales." "Specials," maybe.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
keep in mind that the Warstore traditionally has a nice black friday sale.

Battlefoam used to, but I'm not sure if they still do.

Looks like they may be having a 25% off sale. If it includes free shipping, I'm in.

The problem with sales like that, you'll see customers go to the store maybe once or twice a year to buy something then go. As a Hobby Centre you probably don't want that...

For the crap that GW gets about charging reatil in its shops, what is the alternative? Undercutting FLGS shops?

GW knows that it can underprice independents, and doesn't.

Last GW sale I remember is when they were getting rid of Gorkamorka, it was about 25% of the retail price, and they really slashed the price of 3rd ed and various other things too.

I also remember going to Coventry grand opening and picking up a shedload of guard tanks in the BOGOF

1500pt Eldar [unpainted] 3-1-0 [retired]

Thanksgiving (and Black Friday) is an American thing, GW aren't an American company.

The last GW sale I saw was in 2005 when I bought a battleforce for around $40. They called it "overstock". I didn't care since I was all space marines-ho! at the time and was very happy with the purchase.

Haven't seen a sale since. Bizaare Bazarrs were great but I heard those are discontinued also.

I had to google Black Friday to figure that one out.

Since they're generally don't do sales, and aren't an American company, I really doubt they'd start doing one now. They don't even do Boxing Day sales, a sale that is traditional in a lot more than one country...

As others mentioned www.thewarstore.com does one.

In the past they've done 5% off everything on top of other discounts which comes out to about 24% off GW stuff.

they also do grab bags and deeper discounts on some products.

they've also done some after Christmas sales.

Not sure why you guys are complaining about GW prices since your from America or the UK (no offense) It's here in Australia and NZ that are the only places black friday sales are actually needed... But then the debates for the terrible prices GW charge us are for a different forum
