Wondering how everyone gets over the giant slit on the base when they are basing their PP models. I'm not too sure how to fill it up.

If I'm feeling lazy, I leave it.

If I'm feeling industrious, I put green stuff over it and cover it with
basing material.

If I'm feeling lazy and industrious, I try to use larger basing material to cover
the slit all by itself.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

With the GW slot bases, I find that neat PVA will just goop over the top of it without too much trouble, especially if you add the basing material on quickly. I don't know how big the slot is on the PP bases is though so this may not work.

Otherwise some thin card to the top or bottom of the base will stop the glue seeping through.

If you want to fill large gaps or the entire slot a round toothpick works well. Just cut to the length that you need to fill.

Smaller gaps can be filled by greenstuff. I haven't tried it, but the PVA glue idea would probably work pretty well, too.

Otherwise basing material usually covers up any other inconsistancies.

I use miliput. It's an epoxy like green stuff but cheaper so I can save money. I'm not sculpting with it so it work fine for me.

Masking tape.

I am lazy so I just stuff some greenstuff in there and call it a good 'un. If I was more organised I'd use some of the cheaper methods outlined here.

+1 or whatever count we are at, then base over.

I've used masking tape, scotch tape, duct tape... whatever. No need to make it complicated.

masking tape works well if you are not actually going to use the slot, if so get yourself some miliput, its GREAT for basing and cheap as hell.

I actually just use more glue. It fills in gaps reasonably well, and guarantees the model stays put. Forever.

Works pretty well if you use the slot as well. Just cut a hole in it the size of the tab.

Doesn't tape eventually get old and dry and fall off? Wouldn't that take some of your basing and/or painting with it?

The oldest ones I have done this way are about 20 years old and show no signs of falling off. I would say you don't have to worry about that as long as you don't cover the whole base with tape.

^That was my worry but my skepticism still binds me to trying either green stuff or overwhelming the crease with glue

Re: tape.
By the time you finish the model, the tape has primer, paint, and flocking covering it and the base.
All that seals it on quite well.
Also, I trim the tape to have about 3-4mm around the slit.

This on all my slot bases, after normal basing it doesn't matter about it being masking tape and will hold well.

I put some painter's tape over it and then glue some basing material over it.
