Hey everyone. I'll be documenting my first army's progress in this thread, but first I'll share a little about me.

Warhammer has been floating around me for a while now, a few friends do it, etc., and recently my boyfriend got me into it. My mom was a D&D player when she was younger, must run in the family.

Today we went to the opening of a new Games Workshop and I just so happened to be the first customer to set foot in the store. Bought a Necron Codex, 5 Immortals/Deathmarks, 5 Triarch Praetorians/Lychguards aaaand some sand. Plus my secret ingredients for my bases. More to come, super excited about this.

First off, welcome to Dakkadakka and the world of 40K!

As a fellow Necron enthusiast, I look forward to seeing what you're going to do with your models. Norse-themed Egyptian space skeleton robots sounds like a challenge!

If you're interested, I've got some tutorials up for converting Necrons to help save a bit of cash and use those leftover bits. Check them out!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

This. Before I came into this thread the idea just seemed awesome, especially as I've been playing Skyrim recently

Oh yes, I like your style.
Thanks for the interest, guys! I honestly didn't expect such a good reaction. Now I'm ultra stoked.

Before I post anything about my Necrons, I just wanted to share a couple shots of my first Ork Boyz. Cell brought them over as practice for me before I really got balls deep into anything. I won't be doing anything as whimsical on my Norse Necrons, obviously, but hey, they're Ork Boyz so I pretty much did anything I wanted. Not sure if I'm going to paint them yet, as I'm sort of excited about my Necron army.

I look forward to seeing your Necrons on the secret ingrediant bases!
Love the Orks ( Smoker and Bullet jaw espeacially).
As far as the God-type Ork, could he be a wird boy? Or a mad -doc? Even a Nob. Either way, I'm sure he's playable.
Good stuff.

How'd you do the smoke and word of advice model railway shops sell flock and basing stuff for far far far less than GW.....

It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. Yeah I think I originally planned for him to be a weird boy or nob. Not really sure how far I'll take my Boyz though.

For the smoke all you need is an X-Acto knife and the left over frames from your pieces. I just peeled the sharp edges off and it curls on its own.

Oh I am definitely all for going elsewhere for base materials. I already have other plans, I generally don't want to pay 10 dollars for grass..

Today was my first time using Green Stuff. Thankfully Cell gave me a few tips on how to prevent it sticking to absolutely everything it touches, but somehow I still managed to krazy glue green stuff to my thumb.

So far the two capes I made are sort of fail. One is going to end up being suede/rough leather and the other is a short-hair fur.
I'll try doing a thicker fur cape tonight or tomorrow, but if anyone's got any tips now, I'd love it.

Used some chaos daemon horn bitz for the Triarch's bling.

Also I'll be shaving off most of the existing symbols on these guys and replacing them with runes.

you may want to prime before putting basing on.. or at least take them off the base. Looks nice though!

Definitely get your point, but don't worry I have a plan.

Hmelrose wrote:Nice work! Have you thought of putting horns on them?

Some of them do have horns at the moment! Like the one I'm about to post.. Right now I only have a few horn bitz to work with, so I'll either be making more or grabbing some more someplace else.

New stuff!
I'm getting too enthusiastic.

Figured out a relatively easy way of doing some thick chunky fur (I now want a hot bowl of chili).

On my second Triarch Praetorian I put a giant hunk of fur behind the cage on his back.

And there are also a couple little things I like to do below:

Thanks I've been testing out different methods for the snow and I think I've finally figured it out. More on that later

I was wondering how you'd create Norse Necrons. Yours are coming together nicely,.

Well, I saw the snow at GW and I thought to myself, "That's not going to do." I wanted a crystal-snow-ice-magical-effect, not flakey powder snow. So, the boyfriend (Cell) and I went to the art store and I remembered that you can get acrylic gels in tubs from the paint company Golden. They've got some awesome textures and it's nice and thick. There's even Extra Thick Granular Gel (which I have tried as snow, I might just use it to build up volume and then cover it), it ends up looking like gravel. Anyway, the crystalline gel is called Clear Granular Gel. What I'll end up doing is priming the bases (with or without some granular gel on there, depending on the volume I want) and then going over it with a nice Astronomican Grey (or a pale blue wash) and then adding more Clear Granular Gel over it. The gel dries nice and glassy, so the slight blue tinge will be seen through the gel parts (acting much like a nice wash into cracks).

Wow, sorry for the spiel.

Fantastic bases. I am jealous I am getting some nice ones but they aren't going to be as epic as yours.

I dunno, man! There are a lot of pro things out there I'm completely unaware of. Yours will be rad!
And I've been thinking of the scarabs lately! I don't have any yet, but I will soon.. Not sure exactly what I'm going to do with them yet. I was thinking some of them could have a fur-covering but I am not too keen on it yet. We'll see!

Here's a guy I put together last night. He didn't turn out as epic as I had hoped, but I still quite enjoy his huge furry loin cloth.

Third Triarch Praetorian. Might have to lean his torso forward more, I think it sunk backwards overnight.
