Well, here is Brother Deino, painted up to match Sergeant Lorenzo (all of Squad Lorenzo at least will match- I haven't decided exactly how to approach Squad Gideon).

Overall, I'm very happy with how he turned out. I think the darker colors really help bring out the details on the sculpt.

I've also posted him up on Coolmini for everyone who cares to vote.

Very nice OGS... that deep red to white gradient really generates a striking figure. The gradients on the crux just kill me... nice.

Hm... I'm trying to decide exactly what to tell you that will help out. Most of what I was going for on him was a very high contrast between the darkest and lightest parts of the blending (like he's under harsh lighting, or his armor is a bit shiny).

With reds in particular, it is a bit tricky. Highlighting to a high highlight colors can turn your red into an orange or pink very quickly. The red that I chose is very magenta, and the top highlight color is a very bluish off white. To keep it from getting out of hand, I kept the higher highlighting and blending down to smaller areas, so that the majority of the mini is a deep magenta.

By the way, it doesn't show up too much, but the shading color is actually a green. I've found that I really like shading with complimentary colors, even when it doesn't show in the finished work.

Btw... Green as a shading colour is a bit bold, but it actually works pretty well.

Green over Red combines to create brown- and that takes the edge off of it quite a bit. The opposite works rather well too (red shading on a green base color).

I've been doing a lot of experimenting with this type of shading, and it has been working rather well for me.
