With the 8th edition rules is it still mandatory for the Brets to have a BSB?

I Think vampires have really nice magic standards, TK not so sure.

I wouldn't say it's essential for WE either, they only have two decent magic banners and one of them is 100pts... and the other can be taken by a core choice anyway xD

Magic banners ain't really the most important thing about a BSB. It is true that undead/unstable armies don't care as much though.

Yes, but its good to keep in mind that unbreakable units might have to take a lot of tests.

The tk one is nice if you have constructs near by and you loose combat because skeles are easy to kill so that way you negate taking 2 wounds from combat resolution rather than just one for being a construct.

Vc have nice banners so white king bsb is nice.

The only army without a bsb that I have seen do well is WE.

Personally woc a bsb is required and why would you not take one haha they are quite powerful and buff the army so woot.

I don't get why WE though, wouldn't terror wreak havock on them without a BSB.

They have a lot of ItP units and good Ld, so I wouldn't say Terror would be a huge concern. I think I would still like to manage to give them a BSB, however, for more versatility and reliability.

I dont see why they wouldnt take a bsb, its a 35p(?) investment. You need someone to carry the hail of doom arrow anyway.

For TK they get a 50 point banner that restores d6+2 models on the wielders unit, and is only power level 5.
Plus, units within 12" of the BSB suffer one less wound due to crumble, and in a unit gives +1 combat res, so it lowers the effect of crumble.

Dont WEs BSB loose there longbow if they take a bsb? So they spend the game looking at a hail of doom arrow with no way to fire it.

Indeed they do but the option for a magic weapon stays open.
